Established in 1998 as a joint venture with Dow Chemical of the United States and LG Chem, LG DOW Polycarbonate Ltd. produces polycarbonate, which is a core material in the manufacture of high-end engineering plastics.

LG DOW Polycarbonate's product has the largest demand and highest performance among engineering plastics. Polycarbonate is an indispensable material for manufacturing compact discs, cellular phones, notebook computers, housing for computer monitors, vehicle headlights, construction materials (e.g., soundproof walls and sheets), utensils, stationery goods, helmets, medical instruments, airplane windows, and other items.

LG DOW Polycarbonate completed the construction of its polycarbonate plant on June 2001 in the Yosu Industrial Complex. LG DOW's projected annual production capacity will be 130,000 tons of polycarbonate—the largest in the world in terms of yearly output.
