AUDACIOUS AND CURVACEOUS: LG LIFTS THE LID ON ITS NEW CURVED 4K ULTRA HD TVS
SYDNEY, 9 October 2014 — Combining an amazing screen and sweeping sculpture-like design, LG Australia (LG) today launched its first Curved 4K ULTRA HD TV (model UC970T). The stunning TVs provide ultra-clarity four times the definition of Full HD and come with LG’s intuitive Smart TV platform, webOS. The new model will satisfy hardcore TV buffs and home-entertainment aficionados alike, while their beautiful parabolic curves will entrance those who believe functionality should always be augmented by aesthetics. These are not just TVs, they are a statement for the home.
The 55” (RRP $3,599) and 65” ($5,499) models are now available at Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and other selected outlets for those who want to jump in on the action, while LG’s imposing 79” (model UG880T) is set to launch in December for an RRP of $10,999 –just in time to compete with the Christmas Tree for pride of position in the living room.
Why a curved screen and why 4K Ultra HD?
If you think about some of the more beautiful objects to the human eye – whether they be the Opera House or the shape of a Stradivarius violin– we are tangibly drawn to art, architecture and things in nature that possess an arc or bowed curve. LG’s Curved 4K ULTRA HD TV taps into that universal aesthetic appeal, its curved lines gracefully augmenting the interior design of any room – even turned off, the UC970T is a thing of beauty.
But it’s more than just looks. Striking a sublime balance between design aesthetic and brilliant picture clarity, the new UC970T also represents a quantum leap in technology, delivering content in hyper-real clarity thanks to a whopping 8.3 million-pixel display. The renowned LG IPS display technology expresses dazzlingly true to life colours. Better still, given that 4K content isn’t universally available yet1, the LG ULTRA HD Upscaling Engine skillfully renders standard definition and HD content closer to ULTRA HD clarity2 – in other words, even video not shot in 4K still looks impressive.
It also offers local-dimming with over 60 zones of LED backlights, distributing light more evenly throughout the entire panel. Meanwhile, the scintillating picture quality doesn’t hamper the 65-inch model’s five-star energy rating, making it ideal for consumers looking for a more energy-efficient TV.
Making TV simple again
The LG Curved 4K ULTRA HD TV has Smart TV powered by webOS, making Smart TV simple again. The easy-to-use and cheerful interface embraces the spirit of ‘having it all’. Content can be quickly and easily found on the left-right scrollable Launcher bar. This feature can be accessed while watching broadcast TV, streaming video or while any other content is playing. That means most entertainment on your TV is only two clicks away! If that’s too much distance between you and your favourite show, just speak into the Magic Remote and webOS will help you quickly find your desired destination thanks to its advanced voice command3 capability.
What LG has to say
“Part of our ‘Life’s Good’ mantra is about offering a comprehensive line-up – something for everyone.” said Lambro Skropidis, General Manager Marketing at LG Australia. “This latest addition to our range of advanced Smart TVs hits a number of marks. Like its OLED brethren, it also boasts a particularly beautiful curved design. This really is a TV for people who value a modern home-entertainment experience and who love sharing their living space with an object of undeniable beauty. In that sense, the UC970T really is the best of both worlds.”
