LG AND AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS BLOOD SERVICE LAUNCH ANNUAL BLOOD BLITZ

BONDI BLOOD BLITZ GETS BOOST FROM LG AMBASSADORS GEORGIE PARKER AND MATT MORAN

10 December, 2013, Sydney – The Blood Blitz is on, with LG Electronics Australia today officially joining the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s corporate donation program, Club Red, in a bid to help increase the vital stock of blood donations over the critical Christmas and New Year period.

The Blood Service and LG are working to raise awareness for the increased demand for blood at this time of year, with an extra 27, 500 blood donations needed to boost supplies for road trauma victims, cancer patients and those undergoing emergency surgery.

To drive donations in this crucial period, the Blood Service has once again launched the national Blood Blitz, which will take place from December 23rd until January 3rd.

In order to raise awareness for Blood Blitz, today the Blood Service and LG will be joined by LG Ambassadors Georgie Parker and Matt Moran to boost the Bondi Blood Blitz and encourage the public to take part in one of the most satisfying giving experiences imaginable.

Consumers are simply asked to take an hour out of their day, to provide a donation that will help save the lives of three people. Acclaimed actress Georgie Parker and LG staff members will also be donating blood on the day and will be available for support and advice throughout. Renowned chef Matt Moran will be on hand to provide nutritious snacks to boost and support donors’ immune systems, as well as giving valuable healthy diet tips.

A Garden of Gratitude will be located by the blood service truck as a resting space for all participants to relax before and after donating. With fresh grass and foliage, hammocks and parasols the garden will be the perfect calming zone. Masseuses and an acoustic guitar player will also be on hand to provide the perfect waiting space pre and post donation for the public.

The Christmas and New Year period has traditionally seen a drop off in blood stocks, with many regular blood donors taking holidays and leaving their local areas. However, the urgent need for blood does not decline.

“LG is extremely honoured to be involved with such an important and relevant cause.  Drawing focus to the need for blood donors is important at any time, but we are especially pleased to be involved with driving and securing donations when Australians need them most,” said Phillip Anderson, Head of Public Relations for LG Electronics Australia. “We are looking forward to working with the Blood Service to ensure this is a highly successful Blood Blitz!”

“We’re delighted that LG Electronics has committed to supporting the 2013 Blood Blitz. With the help of LG employees and the LG Ambassadors we are confident that this will be an exciting and effective event,” said Jemma Falkenmire, Public Affairs Officer NSW, Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
