LG ANNOUNCES 2014 HOME ENTERTAINMENT RANGE

Sydney, 6 May 2014 – Ushering in the company’s Home Entertainment range for 2014, LG Australia (LG) today revealed its plans for the Australian market at a launch event held at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney’s iconic Darling Harbour.

Incredible screens, awe-inspiring picture quality and innovative technologies have come to be synonymous with LG’s Home Entertainment range, and with our new 4K Ultra HD TVs, Smart TVs powered by webOS, and new audio visual products (AV) coming to Australian shores this year, LG is once again set to create waves in the Home Entertainment category.

“Shaping technology around what consumers want is at the core of everything we do at LG. With our 4K Ultra HD TVs, Smart TVs and latest AV products, LG continues to put consumer needs first. The addition of webOS, which can be seen across our 4K Ultra HD TV and premium Smart TV range, will provide consumers with an interface that’s so simple and easy it puts the smart into Smart TV.” said Lambro Skropidis, General Manager Marketing at LG Australia.

“Combine this with our continuing Curved OLED Technology revolution, LG is further strengthening its position as one of the market leaders in home entertainment. Now there really is a state of the art TV suitable for every home, and we can’t wait to see what consumers think once our new products are in the market.” he added.

On the continuing relationship between Ewan McGregor and LG Australia, Skropidis remarked:

“Ewan McGregor’s premium appeal has contributed significantly to both brand perception and sales since partnering with LG last year. It has been an absolute pleasure working with him and we anticipate an equally successful 2014 with this great actor helping us to promote the new LG Home Entertainment range in Australia and New Zealand.” said Skropidis.

LG 4K ULTRA HD TV: Ultra Clarity, Ultra Reality

Ever since the launch of its flagship 84” model in 2012, LG’s 4K Ultra HD TV technology has been the talk of the town. With additional models joining LG’s 4K Ultra HD TV family in 2014 (UB980T and UB850T), consumers and industry onlookers alike are sure to be further impressed. Representing a quantum leap in display technology, 4K Ultra HD TV delivers content at 4 times the definition of Full HD TV* and houses a whopping 8.3 million pixels. This means LG’s 4K Ultra HD TVs display the picture in unbelievable detail with greater clarity than ever. Thanks to the impressive refresh rate, on-screen motion is also incredibly clear.

The in-built Ultra HD Engine Upscaler (UB850T) and Ultra HD Engine Pro Upscaler (UB980T) work to enhance all content to near-4K Ultra HD quality, and when paired with the impressive audio, even free-to-air TV looks and sounds fantastic. With pricing of LG’s 49-, 55-, 65-, 79- and 84-inch models starting from RRP $2,499 (49” model), LG is making sure there is an Ultra HD TV to suit every home.

webOS: Uniquely engineered, it’s Smart TV made simple

A key feature of the 2014 range**, the introduction of LG’s webOS platform to LG’s premium Smart TV and 4K Ultra HD TV range allows simple access to content that consumers love the most.

A beautifully clean left-to-right scrollable launcher runs horizontally along the base of the TV screen without interrupting background content, allowing navigation between broadcast TV, Smart TV content, apps and stored media without having to return to a home screen.

What’s more, apps will continue to run in the background at no detriment to the performance of the TV. This will make it easy to jump from watching a movie to Googling the latest sports scores and straight back again without having to reload apps from scratch. All of this is facilitated by LG’s Magic Remote, which eliminates the need for endless button clicking in favour of pointing and scrolling through the beautifully designed menus, as well as supporting multi-language voice control.

“LG has worked hard to reinvent the LG Smart TV platform with a greater focus on the needs, wants and viewing habits of consumers.” said Skropidis. “webOS unlocks the potential of Smart TV like never before – this is why we are genuinely excited to be bringing it to Australian consumers,” he added.

Main Features

> Launcher: Navigating between smart services is so easy with Launcher. A stylish scroll bar appears at the bottom of the screen that shows content providers, recently viewed video content, as well as any connected devices to the Smart TV. Users can scroll through these quickly and effortlessly

> Live Menu: Consumers can also access the Live Menu when watching TV by simply clicking the Live Menu button to the right of screen to activate the instant menu without disrupting current viewing

> Magic Remote: LG’s Smart TVs powered with webOS are easy to use with the LG Magic Remote. It uses intuitive control such as point and speak to view and share entertainment. And if users want to search for something in the online browser, they only need to simply speak into the Magic Remote and watch the text appear on the screen.

And the impressive thing is that this Voice Recognition works superbly with Australian accents. You beauty!

Other Features

Apps – Consumers will be greeted with some awesome apps when they connect their LG Smart TV, powered by webOS, including ABC iView, SBS on Demand, Skype, YouTube, Fairfax and BigPond Movies. There’s also an online browser that will allow them to surf the web with their family from the comfort of the couch.

LG’s webOS televisions include support for Miracast*** for viewing content from your Miracast enabled devices directly to the TV and DLNA streaming from other compatible devices on your home networks.

LG’s webOS will also soon offer access to the LG Store’s comprehensive collection of apps. The LG Store lets users browse the most-viewed and most-downloaded items available from across the Smart TV platform, including broadcast TV programs and the latest games.

The logically organized categories, which include 3D content, games and movies, employ thumbnail images for fast and convenient selection of content.

LG OLED TV (55EA9800): The Ultimate Display

LG’s Curved OLED technology has been thrilling consumers since its launch in 2013, thanks to its slim 4.3mm thickness (at its thinnest point), 5-degree curved screen and brilliant colours. These amazing colours can be attributed to LG’s WRGB technology, which incorporates an additional white pixel to the standard RGB colour set. Dubbed ‘The Ultimate Display’, LG’s 55” Curved OLED TV has to be seen to be believed.

Main Features – The 4 Cs

> COLOUR: Colours like never before – LG’s innovative ‘white’ sub pixel creates a patented 4 colour pixel that produces vibrant colour and brilliant whites with infinite contrast.

> CONTRAST: Superior detail in movies - With an infinite contrast ratio, consumers will see deeper blacks and detail in movies that LED/LCD TVs just can’t deliver.

> CLARITY: Enjoy fast moving scenes - The response time of the LG OLED TV is over 100 times faster than LG LED/LCD TVs, delivering fast moving scenes with minimal blur.

> CURVED SCREEN: Immersive entertainment – Allowing for a cinematic experience at home, consumers can immerse themselves in the stylish, curved screen.

Citing unique engineering expertise enabling the company to produce greater volumes of OLED televisions due to higher yield rates, LG announced last month that its flagship 55” Curved OLED TV (55EA9800) would be reduced to an RRP of $5,999. This has allowed LG to make Curved OLED technology affordable to more Australians.

“We see OLED technology as the future of television, and we believe consumers with plasma and LED/LCD TVs will look at superior OLED technology as a real option for their next purchase. The new price point will bring our most innovative TV technology to more Australians seeking greater picture quality combined with absolute style.” said Skropidis.

“We have been able to master the manufacture of OLED TV technology, and we’re incredibly excited that we are able to innovate and lead in this new segment. This is a powerful breakthrough that consolidates LG’s position as one of the world’s leading consumer electronics companies.” he added.
