LG ANNOUNCES OPTIMUS G – THE WORLD’S FIRST LTE (4G) SMARTPHONE WITH SNAPDRAGON QUAD CORE TECHNOLOGY
LG’s Newest Smartphone Sets a High Benchmark for Performance and Usability
29th August, 2012 – Sydney – LG Electronics Australia (LG) today unveiled its latest flagship mobile device, the Optimus G. The Optimus G is a high-end smartphone that offers powerful performance, elegant and sleek design, and an innovative user experience. As the first LTE (4G) device featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core processor the LG Optimus G represents the foundation of LG’s future smartphone lineup and sets the benchmark by which other smartphones will be measured in terms of speed, performance and consumer friendly user interface.
To offer a class leading smartphone to consumers, LG has gathered industry-leading partners and breakthrough technologies to create the Optimus G. Based on the collaboration with Qualcomm, the Optimus G is the first LTE (4G) smartphone with a Quad-Core processor, the Snapdragon S4 Pro. LG also exploited industry leading technologies available within its vertically-integrated sister companies LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek for the groundbreaking battery performance, screen technologies and user experience.
Next Generation Quad-Core with LTE (4G)
The Optimus G will be the first commercially available device to apply the Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064) Quad-Core processor with LTE (4G) supported capabilities – delivering a world class mobile experience for voice, web browsing, games, user interfaces and other graphic applications. With its unique processor design, the 1.5GHz Quad-Core CPU Snapdragon S4 Pro is equipped with Asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing (aSMP) to maximise battery life and an Adreno™ 320 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to deliver console quality graphics performance on the handsets HD display.
Cutting-edge Display and Battery Efficiency
With help from LG Display, the Optimus G sports a beautiful 4.7-inch WXGA True HD IPS+ LCD Display with 320ppi high pixel density (1280x768 pixels) and a Stripe RGB IPS Panel with 15:9 aspect ratio. LG Display pushed the boundaries of its technology to offer a True HD IPS+ Display, which is sharper and crisper than any other display from LG and with true to life colour reproduction the screens deliver beautiful and natural life-like images.
Optimus G will be the first smartphone to be equipped with LG Innotek and LG Display’s newly developed G2 Touch Hybrid Display for touchscreen panels (TSP). The G2 Touch Hybrid Display is thinner than current LG TSPs and offers a slim panel display with little or no diffused reflection for clearer and sharper visibility, even outdoors. Thanks to the new technology, the thickness of the screen panel has been reduced by approximately 30 percent and the screen itself is much stronger to withstand damage from impact.
To provide more power capacity and prolonged charging cycles, LG Chem developed a high-density 2,100mAh battery. The new battery technology extends the battery lifespan to 800 cycles, much greater than the typical lifespan of 500 cycles in regular phone batteries.
Enhanced User Experience for Productivity and Entertainment
Whether users need functionality or fun in their daily lives, the Optimus G has it all with its 8.0MP camera for picture and video-taking or smart, practical and entertaining features such as:
- Live Zooming - allows zooming in and out while viewing a video;
- Dual Screen / Dual Rendering - lets users mirroring what they see on the handset to a second screen such as a TV.
- Quick MemoTM - which was first seen in Australia on the L-Style range offers the ability to capturea screen image, jot a note on it and share easily with others;
- Time Catch Shot - lets users select and save the best shot among images taken just before the shutter button is depressed;
- Cheese Shutter - takes a photo when a voice command is spoken.
Sophisticated Modern Look
The design of Optimus G has an eye-catching 8.45mm slim body and timeless beauty that demonstrates LG’s design philosophy for this new release. Premium real glass is used for its front and back covers with a polarised glass pattern on the back for a clean, modern look. The Optimus G also has a classic design with minimal gaps in the hardware components thanks to its battery-embedded unibody construction. The slim 3mm bezel and a beautiful jet black front display offer a classic and stylish appearance that will appeal to the most discerning consumer.
“Optimus G has brought together some of the world’s best component makers to develop a high performance smartphone, that stands out in a sea of me-too devices – it’s a groundbreaking collaboration,” said Ben Glimmerveen, Head of Mobile Communications, LG Australia
“We are confident that users will have a superior experience in every way with everything that we’re offering in the Optimus G series. It is far more than just a smartphone with the latest hardware technology – it offers so much more as great attention has also been given also to delivering great design aesthetics, a delightful user interface and state of the art feature usability”
Commercial release of Optimus G in Australia is currently under review. LG will communicate availability in the Australian market on conclusion of discussions with local operators. Market specific versions of the phone will be unveiled in Korea in September and will expand to other key markets including Japan during the later part of 2012.
