LG BRINGS 4G TO THE MASSES WITH THE OPTIMUS F5
LG’s newest smartphone offers greater 4G performance accessibility
SYDNEY, June 3, 2013 – LG Electronics Australia (LG) today announced the arrival of the Optimus F5, a highly featured 4G handset set to shake up the pre-paid and post paid (contract) market. Available through Optus and Virgin Mobile stores and online from the beginning of June2013 on both pre-paid and contract plans, the Optimus F5, the first in the new range 4G handsets to be released in Australia, allows users to connect to 4G networks speeds with exciting user software features.
The Optimus F5 is the first in a new family of Android smartphones from LG that will provide consumers with the capability to experience 4G without the high costs that typically go with such a device. As a key component of LG’s strategy to make 4Gsmartphones accessible to all users, the Optimus F5 features 4G technology and enhanced user experience (UX) features previously unveiled on the flagship Optimus G.
As display size and processor have become increasingly important in smartphone selection, the Optimus F5’s Dual Core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and 4.3-inch qHD IPS display addresses user demands for enhanced performance and true to life viewing experience, respectively.
The Optimus F5 includes the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system and the best of LG’s innovative software features, including:
> QuickMemo: Lets users capture and share handwritten notes on the screen of the phone using just their finger.
> QSlide: Lets users open up to three apps at the same time on the one screen with the ability to change the size, position and transparency of the opened apps.
> Live Zooming: Lets users zoom in on videos whilst they are playing, so they can get a closer, more detailed look at any specific area.
> Video Wiz: An application that lets users play movie director by giving them the power to edit videos on the phone and enhance them with sound and music.
> QuickTranslator function: Translates not only words but entire sentences and phrases by simply using the camera to scan the text. QuickTranslator accepts 44 different languages and can translate them into any one of 64 languages.
“The Optimus F5 is a great addition to the LG mobile range, delivering 4G capability and the features that our customers have been raving about from the release of our flagship Optimus G. There has been a major technology shift towards 4G adoption and the launch of the F5 means Australian customers can now access 4G devices at a competitive price point. With the Optimus F5 we’re confident we can capture an untapped market of new and upgrading smartphone users who crave a feature-rich 4G device, but are not ready to commit to the higher priced post-paid offerings in the market,” said Jonathan Banks, Head of Mobiles for LG Australia.
“Following the successful launch of Optimus G, we are committed to bringing the best technology from our company to the Australian market. LG is continuing to take additional market share with our renewed portfolio, and we look forward to making a statement with our F Series range,” he added.
Ben Murray, Head of Mass Retail Distribution at Optus said, “We’re pleased to add the Optimus F5 into our line-up of devices and develop further our relationship with LG. This is the first time Optus is offering a prepaid 4G smartphone by partnering with a major handset brand, and with such competitive pricing the Optimus F5 is a great way for customers to experience the benefits of Optus’ superfast 4G network.”
Director of Virgin Mobile Proposition, Derek Cummins said: “We’re thrilled to offer the LG Optimus F5 as a strong addition to our expanding Virgin Mobile 4G device range.”
