LG brings world first mobile design technology to Australia
Sydney, Australia, 2 September, 2009 - LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, has released the world’s first mobile phone designed with transparent slide-out keypad in Australia, the LG GD900 Crystal.
The LG GD900 Crystal is a trendsetting touchscreen phone based on the motif of transparency. The Crystal Touchpad, the keypad of the LG GD900 Crystal, slides out effortlessly from under the display and emits a soft, warm glow. The Crystal Touchpad is made of highly durable tempered glass and is framed and reinforced by a band of Liquidmetal, a composite alloy that is ultra-strong and able to absorb shock and vibration.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to launch this world-first in mobile handset design and technology in Australia," said Nathan Dunn, General Manager, Mobile Communications, LG Electronics Australia. "The LG GD900 Crystal’s innovative and stylish transparent keypad offers more than just aesthetics, doubling as a touchpad. Combined with the easy-to-use S-Class User Interface and WVGA LCD touchscreen, the LG GD900 Crystal provides multiple methods of navigation and access to its other great features."
Not only stylish, the LG GD900 Crystal also stands out with its advanced navigational functions. The Crystal Touchpad can be used in the same way as a touchpad on a laptop computer or with a Gesture Shortcut, a new way to experience touch navigation. Gesture Shortcuts reduce the amount of steps required to access multi-tasking features. For instance, users can immediately jump to the web browser in the middle of writing an e-mail by tracing a symbol on the Crystal Touchpad with their finger.
The LG GD900 Crystal also features the vivid and content-rich S-class User Interface (UI) and an additional chipset dedicated to multimedia and graphics content. The S-class UI, together with the touch features and additional processing speed makes the LG GD900 Crystal a multimedia powerhouse.
The LG GD900 Crystal features an 8 megapixel autofocus camera that displays photos on a high resolution 3-inch WVGA LCD touchscreen and with the auto-rotating display, photos look great every time. The handset also has a MP3 player and can hold up to 32GB of music, photos or data using the expandable memory card slot. The LG GD900 Crystal is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing user to connect to the internet via wireless hotspots and it also supports Bluetooth 2.1 for secure, high-speed connectivity to other devices.
The phone is available in Australia now for RRP $899 through Yes Optus, Telechoice, Network Communications and Optus premium dealers.
Gesture Shortcut
Users can instantly access multi-tasking features with customizable and simple finger shortcut gestures. For example, users can configure the phone to open the music player simply by writing the "M" sign on the touchpad. Users can also jump to the web browser while writing an e-mail
Mouse Mode
Users can enjoy web-surfing with greater convenience in Mouse Mode just like a laptop touchpad. In Mouse Mode, the touchpad’s sensitivity and precision minimizes unintended commands and interruption during full Internet browsing.
Multi Finger Touch
LG GD900 Crystal increases readability with Multi Finger Touch that supports zoom. The zoom feature is available when web surfing, photo viewing or watching a movie.
Finger-writing Recognition
Finger-writing recognition is a faster and more convenient way to input text on the Crystal Touchpad. Users can write letters or numbers on the keypad when web surfing or sending text messages.
Touch Wheel
The Touch Wheel allows easier access to multimedia functions. The Touch Wheel makes it more convenient to: Adjust the volume in MP3 player and video player modes. Control zoom or exposure in camera and video camera modes.
Normal alphanumeric keypad
Crystal Touchpad also provides a conventional way to input numbers and text using thumbs or fingers. The keypad offers a wide, familiar space for entering text messages or writing memos. Receiving calls is as simple as sliding out the keypad.
