What People Are Saying

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good phone - EXCEPT that the compass is stuffed!!! This would be such a great little phone - IF only LG would fix the compass bug in the current (as of 2013/4/3) Android firmware. GPS gets confused and sat-finder app's are all useless as a result (I'm trying to install a dish)! I installed the latest AU firmware from LG but it didn't fix anything. Grrr! This UK user reported the same issue : http://www.lg.com/uk/mobile-phones/lg-P500-optimus-one/reviews (3 Feb 2013). Joe.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok for the money Positive: better reception and superior download speeds than my previous (Nokia E6). Negative: Perhaps just this phone but it seems to "lose" its micro SD card intermittently (tried other cards, its a phone issue), and the battery sometimes suddenly goes flat when it had been at 90% or so. It has also stuttered and crashed a fair number of times (requiring the battery to be removed to reboot) but to be fair this may be an Android app related issue - the slower CPU with this phone doesn't like the more hardware hungry apps. Overall: It is still functioning 6 months after purchase despite the above issues, and while not what I'd call the fastest Android phone ever, its cheap and YGWYPF - I'll pay more $ next time and get a better CPU etc. Maybe I'd recommend it depending on the budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pleasant surprise in a long time I am getting into my sixties and although I have had cell phones for several years now, I never could get the hang of anything too technical. With failing eyesight, I finally accepted I would have to go for one of the new smart phones, but to date couldn't find anything that suited, with all the bells and whistles provided by phones these days, I just became frustrated not being able to understand the tech jargon. I managed to get an LG P500 at a real good price on Ebay, letting price be my deciding factor. While I have only had the phone now for about ten days, I am amazed at how quickly I have mastered this model, when I had so much difficulty working out other brands specs. Sure this model has more than I need or can use at the moment; but it is easy to use and no long head scratching moments like some of the more popular brands. Overall it meets this boring old farts needs, quickly and simply. Screen is clear and bright so I don't need my reading glasses, and my little chubby fingers seem to be able to hit the right buttons 95% of the time. Most brands don't anticipate the needs of the elderly less tech minded people, whether they were thinking of us fogies to begin with or whether it was a fortuitous accident, LG has made a great product that you don't need a Degree in engineering, to use. Well done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but disappointing. This is a computer trying to be a phone. As a phone, it is competent, but missing the user definability of other handsets. After two attempts to get help from LG, it seems, according to LG, impossible to define a practical incoming SMS tone of your own for this phone, causing text messages to be missed. Setting specific ringtones for different users can be done, but with difficulty. Other features of this unit make it a very nice, well thought out handset. The touchscreen dims when you place it to your ear, eliminating cheek dialing and also allowing in-call features, such as keypad and group calls, easily accessed when moved away from the face. I bought this phone for my wife and would be getting one for myself IF I could find a way to set the incoming SMS tone to something I could hear in a crowd.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great budget phone I quite rather enjoy using this phone as it's close to stock android. Very good phone for a budget user and highly recommend it. The screen resolution is a bit of a let down but for around a hundred bucks one cannot complain!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great phone! I've had mine for 5 months now and it's fantastic compared to my clunky old Nokia. Great for texting. Great as a satnav. Great as a phone. Easy to use. Only hiccups have been that it's brain works faster than my brain!! Maybe I need a Frodo implant!
