DVD stands for “Digital Versatile Disc”. DVDs can be used for storing video, audio, still image, or computer data. Many people refer to DVD as a Digital Video Disc, however, technically, this is not correct.
However, an HDMI output, can transfer a digital video and audio source signal (such as from a DVD player) digitally, without conversion to analogue. This results in a pure transfer of all of video information from the digital video source to a HDMI or DVI (via a connection adapter) equipped TV.
