R U Cda’s Top Txtr? Canada’s Texting Elite Face Off at the 2nd Annual LG Canadian Texting Championship

More chances for  Canadians with the most sophisticated texting skills to win up to $25,000 in  cash and prizes

Mississauga,  March 16, 2009 – LG Electronics Canada is putting Canadian texters to the test  at the second annual LG Canadian Texting Championship. This year’s contestants  will show off their fierce texting skills in an attempt to strip last year’s  crowned champion, Mark “Jervy” Breiva, of his title as Canada’s fastest texter.

In  addition to the regional championships, this year’s competition has moved  online giving Canadians two additional chances to win their spot in the 2009 LG  Canadian Texting Championships held in Toronto on June 29th, 2009.  Social networkers can win the LG Canadian Texting Championship Facebook  Competition by using their circle of influence (i.e. Facebook friends). The  person with the most friends will receive a trip for two to Toronto to compete  in the LG Canadian Texting Championship finals and $1000 spending money. Texters  can also visit www.lg.ca/texting to win a Ticket To Text in Crypto Short Form 2, also granting them a spot in  the national finals.

Regional qualifying tournaments will take place in 9 locations across the country  throughout the spring, leading up to the ultimate battle for the LG Canadian  Texting Championship crown in June.

"Canadians are texting more than ever and want to show off their skills,” said Pat Button,  Vice-President, Mobile, LG Electronics Canada. “Using LG’s line up of QWERTY  phones, they are staying connected with friends and family through texting and  Instant Messaging. LG wants to give them a chance to win $25,000 in cash and  prizes for doing something they already love to do every day.”

The LG  Canadian Texting Championship is free and open to the general public, kicking  off in Toronto on March 16, 2009 at the Eaton Centre. From there, the regional  qualifying tournaments continue around the country until returning to Toronto  on June 29, 2009 where finalists will compete for up to $25,000 in cash and  prizes, including a $5,000 trip for two from Canada’s largest student  leisure travel company  Breakaway Tours and a sleek Tissot watch.

At the regional  tournaments, players will be asked to type phrases exactly as they appear on  the overhead LG screen. The two fastest players in each region will receive a  trip for two to attend the final championship in Toronto and $1,000 in spending  money for regional and online winners. Two regional qualifiers will be chosen  from British Columbia, the Midwest Region, Ontario and the Eastern Region.

Players  can choose to compete on one of LG’s full QWERTY phones, which includes the LG  Dare (from TELUS), LG Keybo (from TELUS), LG Reveal (from Bell), LG Rumour  (from Bell) or LG Voyager (from both TELUS and Bell) handset. New to the  line-up this year is the LG Neon, which is a slider model that features a full  QWERTY keypad and easy touch screen for dialing (from Rogers Wireless and  coming to Fido this week).
