There’s Still Time to Thumb a Ride to the Finals and Become Canada’s Next Top Texter

As the first annual LG Canadian Texting Championships makes its last few stops, Canadians can still qualify for a spot at the August 26th finals

Mississauga, August 12, 2008 – Canadians with quick thumbs can still compete for their spot in the first annual LG Canadian Texting Championship finals for a chance to win $25,000 in cash and prizes. Two regional competitions remain in BC and Nova Scotia. Canadians who can’t make it to the regionals can compete online for a Golden Ticket at: www.lg.ca/texting.

“With 45.3 million text messages being sent per day, it’s clear that Canadians have taken to texting,” said Andrew Barrett, Vice President, Marketing, LG Electronics Canada.  “Texting is becoming an essential communication tool which is why the LG Canadian Texting Championship has been such a huge hit across Canada.”

Since the June 26th kick-off date, thousands of Canadians have participated in the LG Canadian Texting Championship online and over 12,000 people have participated in at the regional stops across Canada. To date, the fastest and most accurate time has been from Jesse Teare at the Calgary Stampede, which recorded at 5.621 seconds.

The LG Canadian Texting Competition is free and open to the general public with regional qualifying tournaments around the country and online. Regional winners will be flown to Toronto where they will join hosts, MTV’s Evan Starkman and North America’s Sexiest Comedian, Nicole Arbour for the final face-off on August 26, 2008 in Toronto at the Diesel Playhouse. They will compete for up to $25,000 in cash and prizes including a $5,000 trip for two to Cancun, Mexico provided by Breakaway Tours.

Canadians outside tour locations can compete by visiting www.lg.ca/texting where they can play Crypto-Short-Form. Players with the 10 highest scores and one lucky random participant will be entered to win the LG golden ticket to the finals in Toronto for their chance to compete for the title.

Two regional qualifiers will be chosen from BC, the Midwest Region (AB, SK, MB), Ontario and the Eastern Region (QP + Maritimes) and flown to Toronto to compete in the finals. More information about regional results can be found at www.lg.ca/texting.
