CLOTHING COMING OUT OF WASHER WITH STREAKS OF DIRT

 Issue

If clothing, especially darker garments, come out of the washer with white streaks all over or covered with plush, fluff or fuzz you need to first determine whether it is soapy residue or lint.

Confirm type of residue by manually rinsing affected clothing in lukewarm water. If it’s a lint issue it will still cling to the fabric. Don’t try to rub it off. Instead, put that load in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes for the lint to dislodge from the heat.

If manual rinsing takes care of the white streak marks, those would have been caused by excessive use of soap and softener. Please use High efficiency (HE) liquid detergent sparingly as recommended on manufacturer’s detergent canister. The same applies with fabric softener as to quantity used per load.

Energy efficient washing machine can use up to 60% less water than older conventional washing machine. Detergent and additives should be used sparingly in consequence.

Do note the following:

Choosing a wash cycle that is too long for the fabric type causes additional wear on the clothing that releases lint. If it doesn’t get caught in the machine's lint trap or pumped out when draining rinse water, the lint deposits on clothing in the machine.

Adding too much bleach to the load causes the fabrics to release lint.

Washing in water for which temperature is too cold will cause fabric to release lint.

Avoid mixing lint producing clothing with lint collecting garments in the same load.

 Troubleshooting Tips

1. Run regular Tub Clean cycles.

2. Use high efficiency detergent (HE), bleach and fabric softener sparingly.

3. Select most appropriate cycle for the load.

4. There is always the option of adding extra rinse cycles.

5. Put load in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes to dislodge the lint from clothing.

6. Select lukewarm water temperature.

7. Some washing machines feature the option of adding more water to the wash.
