Climate Change & Energy

Status of renewable energy use

Renewable Energy is created by converting fossil fuels or by converting recyclable energy including solar energy, hydropower, geothermal heat, and bio-organisms. As renewable energy is a desirable solution for fossil fuel depletion and environmental issues, various advanced countries are pushing ahead with R&D and distribution policies regarding renewable energy. Currently, the second Chang-Won factory is using renewable energy. The factory uses four kinds of renewable energy including geothermal, solar-light system, Cogen system, and the solar heat system.

Geothermal System

Cooling water is the product of this system, in which hot water runs into the ground and is circulated back to be used as cooling water again.
Generating capacity : 35 kw/h

Solar-Energy System

This system generates electricity from infinite and pollution-free solar energy, by using solar cells.
Generating capacity : 1kw/h

Cogen System

This supplies warm water after generating electricity using LNG.
Generating capacity : 30kw/h

Solar Heat System

This supplies hot water using heat absorbed in a solar heat condenser. It is connected to the formerly installed Cogen system's warm water tank.

From raw materials through the solar power plant, the LG Group is leading a comprehensive solar cell value chain business.

• Within the value chain, LG Electronics will be responsible for designing and manufacturing the solar cell module.

• LG Electronics (or It) is currently setting up the module's production facilities at its Gumi plant.

• LG Group's domestic solar power has a total generation capacity of 25.1 MW.
