In North America, it is not the federal government, but rather the state or provincial governments that enforce take-back and recycling regulations.
In the U.S., the state government and producers have had a regulated recycling system in place since 2005 for California, and many states have been entered into forced. As regulatory status in the U.S changes frequently, LG made the U.S. micro web-site for various stakeholders. If you want to get more information about the U.S., such as the location of drop-off sites, schedule for take-back & recycling events, and total amount of take-back & recycling results, you can visit the U.S. micro web-site (http://www.lgrecyclingprogram.com) or, E-cycling central site operated by the Telecommunications Industry Association. As for Canada, six provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan) have been regulating their product recycling regulation since 2006, and three provinces (Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec) have been regulating their packaging recycling regulation. LG Electronics has a firm grasp of the obligations imposed by each province.

Since 2007, LG Electronics has been an active supporter of the US EPA Plug-in to eCycling program. This program, which is part of LG Electronics' strategy to encourage the voluntary take-back and recycling of TVs, mobile phones, and PCs, is operated on the basis of the self-collection and recycling programs. LG Electronics now provides drop-off points, making it much easier for consumers to return their end-of-life or unused phones and has also looked into a free return mailing system, which is ready to be put into operation. Furthermore, LG Electronics is organizing and plans to participate actively in various mobile phone collection events, bringing together service providers and local governments.
As an official partner of the Buick Invitational golf tournament on January 27, 2008, LG electronics held an event for voluntary take-back of mobile phones (including accessories) as part of the Plug-in To eCycling program run by US EPA.
