Always a step ahead, LG Electronics today unveiled in Hong Kong the world’s first smartphone with NOVA display, the LG Optimus Black P970. To mark this spectacular occasion, LG threw a launch party themed “Light Up Your Style” to celebrate the bright display that is a hallmark of the new LG Optimus Black P970. As a black curtain surrounding the venue pulled back, the LG Optimus Black emerged for all to enjoy, promising to be the ultimate and brightest display on the market.

LG Optimus Black is the first LG smartphone using the breakthrough NOVA display. Featuring the 4.0” IPS LCD display, which can reach a maximum brightness of 700 Nits (the unit measuring brightness), the LG Optimus Black provides picture-perfect clarity even under fierce sunlight. The crystal-clear NOVA display not only enhances readability for viewing web pages, email, and documents, but it also harnesses the latest technology, allowing auto-adjustment of brightness levels depending on the amount of light needed. The function can conserve energy by up to 50% compared to traditional displays. What’s more, the 9.2mm-thick LG Optimus Black weighs only 109g, and its seamless finish makes it an attractive phone for all occasions.

“We are proud to present LG Optimus Black to continue bringing the optimal smartphone experience to all Hong Kong users.” said Mr Wayne Lee, Managing Director of LG Electronics Hong Kong Limited. “LG Optimus Black offers the brightest screen and a sleek stylish design with advanced technology. We look forward to seeing LG Optimus Black ‘Light Up’ everyone’s life.”

LG invited rising star Aarif Rahman to join this special occasion. Aarif stated that the NOVA display allows him to view photos, videos and web pages at any time anywhere, even under strong sunlight. He also appreciates the LG Optimus Black’s ‘Gesture UI’ controls – offering a range of elegantly simple modes like flipping, tapping, lifting and shaking for taking calls, browsing photos, enjoying music and much more. All this convenient functionality frees Aarif to keep up with his busy schedule.

Famous stylist Faye Tsui was also invited, and observed that the stylish LG Optimus Black looks smart and slim with any look. LG will soon launch a Facebook profile dedicated to styling, enabling Faye and well-known local makeup artist Wing Wong to share their fashion secrets with all LG fans. Aside from looking great in the hand, the LG Optimus Black seizes on the power of controls like ‘Gesture UI’ and ‘G-Key’. By pressing the ‘G-Key’, the screen can move, enlarge, and reduce with tilting and panning functions. Now you can fully customise the look and use of your phone with just a few easy moves.

LG Optimus Black, equipped with Optimus UI 2.0 and supported by Android 2.2™ (Froyo), will soon be upgradeable to 2.3. With diverse apps and content available from the Android Market™, you can always get in touch with friends and the world through SMS, Facebook, twitter, and more. LG Optimus Black also supports Wi-Fi Direct™, so you can transfer data quickly and conveniently without wires or routers. LG Optimus Black also incorporates the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera. High-quality, self-taking photo and video capabilities are now just a touch away, while a rear 5MP camera can capture any moment you want, on the go.
