If you set Always On Display (AOD) to on, more battery will be consumed than on AOD off mode, resulting in additional current consumption.

However, even if you set AOD to on, AOD will be turned off by the proximity sensor when used as follows.

If you leave your phone overturned.

If the phone is in your trouser pocket.

If you talk on the phone by holding your phone at your ear.

Therefore, by using AOD, you can effectively reduce battery consumption compared to when you turn LCD on to check time and other phone notifications.
