Home Network Technologies

LG Electronics' total Home Network solution connects all your digital home appliances through high-end communication technologies.

LG's home network solution links servers and home appliances such as air conditioners, TVs, and DVD players via cable or wireless, enabling data to be shared and appliances to be operated easily and effectively by the homeowner, while at home or away.

LG's Home Network is an Internet-enabled wireless communications medium and a centralized control system by which diverse home appliances, including a home server, share data through a wired or wireless connection. In addition to providing control functions, the LG Home Network provides access to the TV, refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, and other household appliances via the Internet and mobile handsets, thereby making it possible to control home appliances from anywhere, at any time - even when you're not home.

Fueled by technological advancements and high-speed broadband Internet services, a new "Information/Appliance Combined System" is emerging. Most major companies are currently striving to develop such home network systems while retaining core technologies.

Together with our "LG HomNet" brand, we at LG are committed to leading the market in these key specialties. Our company is particularly devoted to providing a complete series of related Home Network technologies, from networking protocols to digital appliances and services.

LG HomNet is the company's Total Home Network Solution, providing a convenient, secure, more easygoing lifestyle with the integration of various digital home appliances.

Major R&D Areas in Home Networks

Standardization

LG Electronics undertook thorough research and development before unveiling its Living Network Control Protocol (LnCP) standard. Relying on our own technology, the power line communication-based LnCP is also the back-end technology that enabled the foundation of HnCP, an LnCP-based Korean Standard, in the PLC Forum, Korea. Our company is also a key member of various international standardization groups, including Microsoft's Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) Forum.

Home Servers

Home servers are an essential part of any home network system. Since our development of wall-pad home servers in 2004, we at LG are striving to deliver a more advanced home server though our wealth of technologies and expertise.

Network Adapters

Network adapters are a key component enabling the networking of devices. At LG, we're focusing on the development of our network adapter based on various technologies such as Power Line, ZigBee, RF, and RS 48UK_A1.

Digital Information Appliances

Ever since we introduced the world's first Internet-enabled refrigerator in 2000, LG Electronics has been providing most of our home appliances-such as air conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, gas cookers, dishwashers, and digital TVs-with networking capabilities. We expect that these accomplishments will help improve the foundations of our home network concept as a whole. At LG, we have also developed other essential components, such as the Wireless AV Net-work System and Smart Display, and are spearheading efforts to retain our leading position in global markets by providing world-class, high-end products and technologies.

Services

LG Electronics' home network portal site (www.lghomnet.com) offers the perfect solution for controlling home appliances via Internet, PC, mobile phone, PDA, and other wired/wireless devices, whether you're away or at home. Our latest home network system works in conjunction with home automation to perform services such as telemetering, home security, and energy management. At LG, our goal is to further develop this system to include services such as remote-education and healthcare.

Global Status

Starting with LG in Korea, we have also achieved global recognition for our technologies and services by providing home network systems worldwide, including in the U.K., Mexico, U.S., Spain, Australia, Belgium, Greece, Taiwan, India, Canada, Russia, the Netherlands, South Africa, Germany, Italy, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and China.
