In the world of HD television, there are two basic choices: those that include a digital tuner (HDTVs), and those that use a separate digital tuner (HD monitors). HD monitors and HD televisions offer the highest level of digital TV performance—about five times more picture detail than analogue.
A digital TV will have a much greater resolution than its analogue counterpart. Almost all digital TVs can display progressive-scan DVDs (480p) and HDTV (usually 1080i) at full resolution, whereas analogue cannot. LCD displays are digital televisions with a fixed pixel structure. Each pixel has three sub-pixels of red, green, and blue.
