India’s Women Baseball Team to Participate in LG Cup International Women’s Baseball Tournament 2014, in South Korea

New Delhi, 22nd August 2014: The Indian Women’s Baseball Team will participate in the first ever LG Cup International Women’s Baseball Tournament 2014 (LG Cup 2014) slated to take place at the LG Incheon Sports Complex in South Korea from the 22nd to 25th of August 2014. The tournament, organized by the Women’s Baseball Association, South Korea has been sponsored by LG Electronics. With an aim to enhance friendship amongst participating countries and create awareness for women’s baseball around the globe, LG Cup 2014 will see eight countries participating in the event, with aound 20 players in each team. The Indian Team is lead at the helm by Delegation Head, AIDG of Kerala Government, Mr. M.N. Krishnamurthy, trained by Coach L. Rajender, and Ms. Deep Laxmi, is representing the team as its Captain. The Indian Women’s Baseball Team comprises of 22 competent young women who have been chosen from across the country through a rigorous selection process.

Rajender, former Indian Baseball Team Captain, Asian Championships, Japan and Seoul, in the years 1987 and 1989, and Ms. Deep Laxmi who participated in the Women’s Baseball World Cup 2008 Japan, have worked hard and trained the team extensively. The Indian team is the pride of the nation. Being high achievers, our players have the drive and the passion required to play hard and win the game. We are confident that they will bring home the LG Cup.”

 

The Indian team will be a preferred participant in the LG Cup 2014 and will also get an opportunity to watch the LG Twins and the Pro Baseball Game in South Korea. A host of exclusive LG products will be provided to the winners as prizes. The winning Champion’s Trophy will include LG products worth 3000 USD for the winning team players , the Second Position team will win LG products worth 2000 USD and the team at the Third Place will win LG products worth 1000 USD. Individual prizes will also include LG accessories, gifts and souvenirs.

Beginning with the Opening Ceremony, Group Matches of the Tournament are set to begin on 22nd August and will carry on till 24th August. The Match Game and Finals will take place on 25th August followed by the Closing Ceremony Gala Night. The LG Cupaims to be a successful international event that can be replicated in years to come.
