Bayer 04 Leverkusen Stamps LG onto its Chest

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Bayer 04 Leverkusen is a club with a long history, established in 1904 in the town of Leverkusen.


Also known as Bayer Leverkusen, the name came to fruition by combining the year in which the German enterprise Bayer was founded, in 1904, along with the company name and hometown of Leverkusen.


No wins in the Bundesliga as of yet, but a 1988 UEFA Championship is surely an accolade worth noting. And with a recent charge towards becoming the frontrunner for the Bundesliga champion, Bayer 04 Leverkusen is on the radar, with a bright future ahead of them.

LG Electronics Becomes the Main Sponsor

At the end of August 2013, LG Electronics signed a deal to become the main sponsor for German Bundesliga Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The heads of both parties exchanged gifts at an official press conference. Michael Schade, the newly appointed Managing Director of Bayer Leverkusen, gifted a shirt signed by all club members, while LG’s Executive Vice President, Ki Wan Kim, gifted a brand new LG G2.

At the inaugural sponsorship announcement, LG’s Mr. Ki Wan Kim is seen with former Bayer Leverkusen’s Managing Director along with one of the players.


At the time, the club’s former Managing Director, Wolfgang Holzhäuser, was set to leave by the 30th of September with newly appointed Michael Schadeset to take the reigns on the 1st of October.

This transition in leadership allowed LG Electronics to meet with both heads of the club.

With many players to choose from within the club, who is this player that was chosen as the face of this sponsorship deal?

Well, he is Heung-Min Son, freshly recruited into Leverkusen this season and is loved by local fans as well as fans from his motherland, South Korea. And with LG Electronics, the main sponsor, being a Korean company, LG had appointed Heung-Min Son as the new Brand Ambassador.


With the transfer to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Heung-Min Son continues to demonstrate sublime skills. Not long ago, Son had recorded a hat-trick with his former club, Hamburger SV. What does he have in store for this season with his new club?

The logo of smartphone brand LG G2, not the LG Electronics logo itself, is proudly worn on the chest of each Bayer Leverkusen player. This was an effort to showcase to the Bundesliga fans that the LG G2 is capable of marching amongst the giants. Although temporary, it was a sign of validation for being the best, by being able to march with the likes of a great team.

And just like that, LG has become Bayer 04 Leverkusen‘s main sponsor for the 2013 season for a duration of three years.


From player shirts to stadium marketing, LG’s efforts are gaining great exposure.

With the LG logo stamped on their chests, Bayer Leverkusen players have more of a reason to feel closer to the LG G2 they play with in this photo shoot.
