Sponsorship Kicks Off With Immediate $10,000 in Additional Prize Money for Canadians Competing in this Weekend’s Canadian Snowboard Nationals

Vancouver, April 4, 2007 – At an international press conference at Cypress Mountain, BC, LG Electronics Canada today proudly announced that it has become an official sponsor of the Canadian Snowboard Federation and the Canadian National Snowboard Team. LG Electronics Canada made the sponsorship announcement in tandem with its first demonstration of support to the team: a $10,000 prize purse for the top performing Canadians at this weekend’s Canadian Snowboard Nationals presented by Telus.

The sponsorship agreement enables LG Canada to provide support to this national team of world-class athletes, which has just wrapped up the most successful season in the history of the Canadian Snowboard Federation.

“The athletes on the Canadian Snowboard Team have dedicated themselves to achieving excellence, and we feel that the LG brand truly reflects this quality,” said Steve Fairbairn, Canadian Snowboard Federation Chair. “We are honoured and thrilled to welcome LG Canada as a proud sponsor of the Canadian Snowboard Federation.”

The news of LG Canada’s sponsorship of the Canadian National Snowboard Team coincides with the announcement from LG Electronics Global Brand Marketing that it has become the title sponsor of the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) Snowboard World Cup for the 2008-2009 season. The FIS Snowboard World Cup 2008-2009 competitions will take place across 22 cities in 16 countries between September 2008 and March 2009, and will include two events in Canada, featuring a competition at Cypress Mountain, which will test the mountain exactly one year before the big event in 2010.

“We warmly welcome LG Electronics onboard as the new title sponsor of the FIS Snowboard World Cup. As a dynamic, global series, the FIS Snowboard World Cup is happy to have found a similarly-minded, creative partner in LG Electronics,” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. “We look forward to working with LG Electronics in its new capacity as title sponsor, and anticipate a successful partnership thanks to its worldwide reach and brand recognition.”

Attracting 200 competitors over two days in Half Pipe and Snowboardcross, the Canadian Snowboard Nationals proved to be the perfect setting for the unveiling of both LG Canada’s sponsorship and the $10,000 prize purse. Members of the Canadian Snowboard Snowboardcross Team including Maëlle Ricker, Drew Neilson and Dominique Maltais were on hand for the press conference.

“Canada has a great tradition of snowboarding excellence, and as an athlete who is passionate about the sport it is amazing that a well-respected, premier brand like LG has made this kind of commitment,” said Maëlle Ricker, member of the Canadian National Snowboard Team that won three Gold medals and three Silver medals at the recent World Cup Finals, and the 2008 recipient of the Crystal Globe Award. “And beyond LG attaching its name to the sport, it is appreciated and recognized by the athletic community that they have made such an immediate impact to snowboarders by offering up the $10,000 prize at this weekend’s competition.”

“The sport of snowboarding showcases two attributes that work in perfect harmony with LG’s philosophy: high performance and unparalleled style. For us, it was a perfect fit in terms of a sponsorship, and we are delighted to make this commitment to the Canadian National Snowboard Team,” said Andrew Barrett, Vice President, Marketing, LG Electronics Canada. “Snowboarding has a rich history in Canada, from winning the first awarded Olympic snowboarding medal to recent successes at the World Cup Finals. At LG, we are excited to become a part of this legacy, and anticipate a spectacular event in February 2009, when Canada will welcome the world to Cypress Mountain as host of the World Cup Competition.”
