What You Need to Know about Video

What’s a DVD Recorder?

A DVD recorder or DVD-R is an optical drive that uses a laser to record video onto a blank DVD. DVD recorders are available as standalone units or internal drives, which are not only capable of recording video, but also work as DVD players. As of March 2007, many DVD recorders come equipped with a digital ATSC tuner to provide users with digital-quality image and sound on their analog TV.

What types of DVD Recorders are available?

LG DVD recorders come in a variety of formats with a range of capabilities. Super-Multi DVD Recorders burn in all current DVD disc formats, with Super-Multi Format Recording: DVD±R /DVD±RW/DVD+R Double Layer/DVD-RAM. HDMI DVD Recorders replace up to 9 kinds of current analog connections, maximizing the quality of digital audio and video, and minimizing data loss.

HDTV Digital Video Recorders let you record directly from your cable box or TV antenna. DVD recorders with DivX Playback need far less disc capacity when recording high-resolution video and sound, allowing users to store more video per disc. DivX also lets you enjoy DivX files downloaded directly from the Internet. ]

Dual Progressive Scan DVD Recorders convert a standard quality VHS to progressive-scan quality, and allow you to upscale your analog TV’s picture quality for enhanced viewing pleasure.

LG Design Philosophy for Video

What is Instant Streaming?

Streaming is a process whereby digital media such as movies and television programs can be accessed on a user’s preferred media player as the data is being transferred. This revolutionary process allows viewers instant access to an ever-expanding library of networked content such as YouTube™. Streaming is the next step in truly personalized entertainment, giving users the ability to experience media on demand, in exceptional audio and video quality, from the comfort of their home.

What do I need?

To gain instant, unparalleled access to the ever-expanding variety of networked movies and TV episodes, you will need a media viewing device with a high-speed Internet connection and a contract with a movie service provider. Now stream movies, TV shows and video, to your TV directly using CinemaNow and YouTube™. Selections begin playing in as little as 30 seconds, with no personal computer needed. Movie enthusiasts can also take advantage of special Blu-ray content with BD Live and Bonus View selections, both of which offer a wide variety of streaming add-ons, such as movie scene extras, previews, synopses, and special features.

What are DVD Regions?

DVD Regions are restrictions encoded onto a DVD that determine where in the world it can be played. The United States, United States territories, and Canada belong to region code 1.

What is the purpose of DVD Regions?

The purpose of DVD Regions is to allow motion picture studios to control several aspects of their DVD movie releases, including content, release date, and price.

How does this affect me?

DVD players are formatted to only play DVDs with your region code. In other words, you will not be able to watch a DVD with a region code that is not your own, which in most cases is not a problem.
