What You Need to Know about Video

What’s a DVD Recorder?

A DVD recorder or DVD-R is an optical drive that uses a laser to record video onto a blank DVD. DVD recorders are available as standalone units or internal drives, which are not only capable of recording video, but also work as DVD players. As of March 2007, many DVD recorders come equipped with a digital ATSC tuner to provide users with digital-quality image and sound on their analog TV.

What types of DVD Recorders are available?

LG DVD recorders come in a variety of formats with a range of capabilities. Super-Multi DVD Recorders burn in all current DVD disc formats, with Super-Multi Format Recording: DVD±R /DVD±RW/DVD+R Double Layer/DVD-RAM. HDMI DVD Recorders replace up to 9 kinds of current analog connections, maximizing the quality of digital audio and video, and minimizing data loss.

HDTV Digital Video Recorders let you record directly from your cable box or TV antenna. DVD recorders with DivX Playback need far less disc capacity when recording high-resolution video and sound, allowing users to store more video per disc. DivX also lets you enjoy DivX files downloaded directly from the Internet. ]

Dual Progressive Scan DVD Recorders convert a standard quality VHS to progressive-scan quality, and allow you to upscale your analog TV’s picture quality for enhanced viewing pleasure.

What are DVD Regions?

DVD Regions are restrictions encoded onto a DVD that determine where in the world it can be played. The United States, United States territories, and Canada belong to region code 1.

What is the purpose of DVD Regions?

The purpose of DVD Regions is to allow motion picture studios to control several aspects of their DVD movie releases, including content, release date, and price.

How does this affect me?

DVD players are formatted to only play DVDs with your region code. In other words, you will not be able to watch a DVD with a region code that is not your own, which in most cases is not a problem.
