Young Chan Kim has been President and CEO of LG Electronics CIS since July 2007. His appointment signifies the company's desire to push LG's aspirational brand to the top echelon in CIS, with emphasis on the global approach of value creation.
In 1977, Young Chan Kim joined LG Electronics and he was in charge of the overseas Sales Department for 4 years. This experience enabled him to see LG's business from a global perspective.
From 1982 to 1986, Young Chan Kim served as the Head of the LG Chicago representative office. He developed and expanded the business with major US companies, such as Sears, Roebuck and Co., J.C. Penney and General Electric.
In 1989, Mr. Kim became head of Canada operations. Throughout this time he expanded his leadership skills as the head of the North American market. He succeeded in positioning Gold Star as a premium brand by implementing "Leadership marketing", which put Gold Star in an upscale position.
Since joining LG Corporate, the holding company for LG Group, in 1993, Mr. Kim has supported the Chairman's strategic decision making and all related matters. Due to his vast global experience and knowledge, he has made invaluable contributions to the LG Group's strategic development for more than 10 years until 2004.
Mr. Kim came back to LG Electronics in 2004 and, up until 2007, he was in charge of Digital Display overseas marketing. He played a vital role in setting up LG's competitiveness in the field of Display, especially in Plasma and LCD products.
He has a wife, two daughters and one son.
