Light up the screen with LG’s new LED monitors

LG’s W86 series combines high-end design with the latest LED technolog

Berkshire, UK, 15 September, 2009 - LG today raises the bar for PC monitor standards with the launch of its range of slim and stylish LED (Light Emitting Diode) screens, the W86 series. Combining the very latest LED technology with high-end design, these LCD widescreen monitors offer users a state-of-the-art viewing experience, and will add a touch of elegance to any home or office.

The W86 series is ideal for the style conscious who are looking for a design-led product to compliment their entertainment and work set-up. Its slim screen - measuring just 20.5mm - sits above a ruby red base, a design feature found on LG’s high-end TVs. This is complimented by a piano black casing, an LED power button and touch sensitive controls that glow red when movement is detected.

Using LED technology alters the method of lighting up the screen, allowing the W86 series to produce a much more vibrant image than a standard monitor using CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps). LED technology not only improves the picture quality, but the lamps used do not contain mercury or lead, thus reducing the product’s power consumption by up to 40%, compared to a standard PC monitor.

The W86 series boasts an ‘Auto Bright’ feature which automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness based on the light in the room and the content being viewed. This not only reduces energy consumption, but creates an optimum picture for maximum viewing experience. To avoid eyestrain, the monitor also includes a timer that reminds users to take a break from their work at predetermined intervals.

The W86 series’ ‘Cinema Mode’ feature enables users to eliminate distractions often found when watching online videos, such as pop up adverts, by blacking out everything except for the video clip.

With a Dynamic Fine Contrast ratio (DFC) of 2,000,000:1 and full-HD resolution*, the W86 series produces clear, fine details whether it is being used for viewing films, games or photos. The monitors boast a 2ms response time, a 16:9 aspect ratio and two HDMI ports for compatibility with games consoles and Blu-ray devices.

“LG is dedicated to keeping consumers ahead of the game when it comes to technological advances and innovation” explains Warren Lewis, general manager, LG Business Solutions. “Combining LED technology with LG’s renowned high-end design, the W86 series is ideal for people who demand great looking products with specifications and features that are genuinely enriching the viewing experience.”

In addition to the LED-backlit models, the W86 will be available with traditional CCFL backlighting. This offers the same premium style, high-end picture quality and full set of features as the LED models, but at a more affordable price.
