Wash day blues - 40 per cent of UK consumers spend too much time on laundry according to LG’s Simply Living Report*

LG expands washing machine range specifically designed for simple living

UK, 6 July, 2009 – LG has expanded its range of Direct Drive and Steam Direct Drive washing machines. In today’s time-poor culture, the Simply Living Report *, independently conducted research into the nations lifestyle habits, revealed that 40 per cent of consumers believe they spend too much time on their laundry, with over a third of people putting a wash on daily.

Based on this insight, LG has ensured that continual development in washing capacity to lessen the chore sees drum sizes range from 7kg through to 9kg, meaning everything from a single tea towel to a king-size duvet can be effectively washed.

Designed with consumer insight in mind; noise/vibration reduction, increased capacity, durability and energy efficiencies are all defining features across the family. Available in black, white and silver and in a variety of drum sizes (washer, dryer and combination); there is something to suit every household.

30 per cent of respondents who participated in the Simply Living Report revealed that the intrusion of noise and vibration was the most irritating factor associated with putting on a wash cycle. LG’s patented Direct Drive motor enables power to be delivered direct to the drum, eliminating the need for a belt allowing the machine to run silently, whilst increasing its durability.

In the same report, LG found a rise in the ‘ethical consumer’, where 54 per cent of respondents cited energy efficiency as the most important feature when it came to purchasing decisions. Influenced by this trend, LG has included several features to enable their machines to be commended on their environmental capabilities.

An intelligent washing function detects the exact load weight (from 1kg to 9kg) and automatically determines the programme length and amount of water needed, saving time, energy and water. Over a year, it is estimated to save a whole month’s water and energy – perfect for environmentally aware** families.

Several of the new models include LG’s steam technology. The innovative Steam RefreshTM function removes wrinkles and odours from clothes in just 20 minutes, using steam rather than water, perfect for busy professionals with no time to spare. The Steam Direct Drive has been rated A++ for energy efficiency, using 35 per cent less water and 21 per cent less energy than traditional A rated machines.

The 2009 range of LG home appliances will be sold from all major retailers from June 2009.

Prices are dependant on make, model and retailer with typical price ranging from £379 - £999. Pricing sole discretion of retailer.
