The LG 50PX990 wins the 3D Supertest with 5 out of 5 stars, receiving the “What Hi Fi Test Winner” award. PX990 What Hi Fi super test winner

The LG 50PX990 wins the 3D Supertest with 5 out of 5 stars, receiving the “What Hi Fi Test Winner” award. This is an amazing review for LG, as the PX990 was up against 11 models in total and tough competition from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and Philips.

The author says that the 50PX990 is a “smooth and good looking” plasma that not only looks more expensive than it is, but also has the performance to make good on its specification.

He notes that the black levels impress in both depth and details, and the detail levels in general are on the generous side. He comments that the PX990 confidently combines clean whites and deep, information – packed blacks.

The journalist thinks that the Blu-ray pictures, unsurprisingly make the most of the LG’s strength and the colours remain striking. Talking about the 3D element, he describes watching the PX990 as “absorbing” and the cross talk is less intrusive than many rivals can manage.

It is concluded that the LG is a very persuasive TV and that the Samsung PS0C6900 was the only thing on the market, until the PX990 came along.

What Hi Fi have since requested that they can keep hold of a PX990 model to use as their reference model in the testing studios – as they judge the PX990 as the finest 3D TV now on the market and that all other 3D models should be measured against it.

LG announced the PX990, the world’s first THX certified 3D display. In the absence of any current industry standards for 3D, the introduction of a THX certification process is an important step in the evolution of 3D as a domestic format. LG PX990 (50PX990) Review

Like many manufacturers LG has been at the cutting edge of new display technology; but unlike some LG has also placed importance on accurate image quality and professional calibration controls. All of LG’s 2010 displays include ISF calibration controls and many also include THX certification and pre-calibrated settings. So it came as no surprise when at IFA in September, LG announced the PX990, the world’s first THX certified 3D display. In the absence of any current industry standards for 3D, the introduction of a THX certification process is an important step in the evolution of 3D as a domestic format and I was very interested in putting the PX990 through its paces.
