Answer:
When it is shipped from the factory, the vent control stick is folded back on itself, in the air duct. Remove the front grill, in order to gain access to the air duct in the unit. You should see the vent control stick inside. Simply flip it forward, into a straight position, and then re-install the grill cover. The vent control stick should now protrude from the front of the unit.

Is there something loose in the blower fan/duct box?

When installing my unit and turning it on the first time, there was a loud rattle inside the blower box, so I turned the unit off, waited a few minutes and restarted. The same rattle occurred. It sounded as if there was a loose part or hard article down in the box that interefered with the blower fan blades upon startup. I tried to use a mirror and flashlight to see it but could not - it is also imposible to get one's hand down to the bottom of the box to try to locate it. On the third startup attempt there was no noise and startup appeared to be normal - so should I uninstall the unit and then set it on its side or even upside down to try to remove the loose article to keep it from possibly damaging the fan and/or motor? Or should I return it? I have not used it since trying the startup. Please advise!
