Answer:
No--the Styrofoam you see behind the front grille is the airguide, and is part of the unit's internals. (Styrofoam is used because of its light weight and insulative properties.)

my unit is cooling ok but drips water on wooden window sill

I've had my unit since July and it cools wonderfully. It has been dripping the condensate fine but last week stopped outside dripping and started pooling water right below the front of the unit on the wooden window sill. Is there a tube to transfer water from the front inner pan to back outer pan? Is it something I can clean? It cools fine but it is wrecking my wooden window sill. I looked online for a service manual but couldn't fine any. Should I just trash it and get another unit? HELP!!!

BTW I own 5 of these units and all others are working fine...

Answer:
There appears to be a clog in the pan drain. Try inserting a long, thin object (such as a screwdriver) into the black drain outlet at the rear of the unit, to clear the clog.

Is it possible that the unit may have gotten tilled inward? I would suggest contacting our customer support specialist for more detailed trouble shooting at 1-800-243-0000

Answer:
No. Freon (coolant) type air conditioners, as a principle of their design, cannot be operated in any orientation other than standard. Operating any A/C unit on its side or upside-down will seriously damage the unit due to improper or insufficient coolant circulation.

Answer:
This unit is not intended to be installed or stored on its side due to the oil in the compressor flowing in to the refrigerant lines.

Answer:
There is an air adjuster located near the center of the grille; however, this only adjusts airflow to the left and right. There is no provision for adjusting vertical airflow.

Answer:
•Ventilation lever must be in the CLOSE position in order to maintain the best cooling condition. When fresh air is necessary in the room, set the ventilation lever to the OPEN position.
•To turn the unit on, press the air conditioner’s control panel ON button. This button is a manual stop and start for the unit and will stop any cycle.
•The MODE operation selection button is used to run continuous cycles on the temperature setting selected.
•The OFF and ON timer button is used to set and reset the timer for heat, cool, and fan modes. Settings allowed are from 1 to 12 hours or cancel if timer is not to be set.
•FAN SPEED selection selects the speed for the fan. The speed can be set to HI-F2, LO-F1. These are the only two settings used for heat, cool air and fan modes.
•The ROOM TEMPERATURE button (when pushed) automatically controls the temperature of the room. The temperature may be set between the ranges of 60°F to 86°F and increased 1°F at a time.
•In the ENERGY SAVER mode, the fan stops when the compressor stops cooling. After approximately 3 minutes, the fan will turn on and the room temperature is checked to determine if cooling is needed.
•Remote Control: the AUTO SWING feature controls the air flow direction. Use this feature to circulate air in the room at the preferred level of comfort.
•AUTO START: if power failure occurs, the unit will restart at the last setting made on auto start feature.
•When the air conditioner has been performing the cooling cycle and is turned off or set to fan mode, wait at least 3 minutes before resetting the cooling operation.

Answer:
I would suggest to turn the unit on full cool (thermostat to highest number) and place a thermometer somewhere in the room, not right next to the air conditioner. When the thermometer reads your desired temperature, slowly turn the A/C unit's thermostat down (lower numbers) until the compressor kicks off. The unit should then cycle the compressor on and off to maintain your desired temperature. As for room humidity, all air conditioners also act as dehumidifiers.

Answer:
I apologize, but this air conditioner does not come with a method to set such specifics. Our documentation shows that this unit has a POWER switch, FAN SPEED switch, and a dial with settings 1-9. The higher the number, on this dial, the colder temperature the air conditioner will reach. It is likely that, with this unit running, it will leave less than 70% humidity in the room.

Say you need just a little extra cooling, but you want a window unit that really works. Maybe one with 5,000 BTUs, dual cooling speeds anda 2-way air direction function that cools up to 150 square feet. Well,we’ve got it right here. Not a ton of bells and whistles. Just a really great air conditioner.
