Answer:
I don't know about decibles but the unit is loud. I bought it to get a quieter unit for my TV room. I wanted to be able to run it on low but still be cool and not have to blast my TV volume. When the fan and compressor turn on from the energy saving mode I have to increase the volume of the TV by 5 clicks.

Why is outside daylight visible on both sides of the fan housing?

I have a model LW8012ER. With the room light off, I can see light from the outside on both side of the fan housing. Is this normal? if so, These are large openings - what's to keep outside air out? What's to keep insects out?

Answer:
Well. You don't keep the outside air out. You use the cooling unit to pull outside air in..cool it, dehumidify it, push the cooled air INSIDE your room and the heat exits through those large openings, keeping the unit running properly and insects from flying into the unit. Now, if you didn't properly install your side flashings, those little critters can still creep in, so be sure your side panels are correctly installed and sealed.

Answer:
There should be no room for light to get around the fan motor and the air guide. Unless the vent port has been left open, no light should be coming through the unit from the outside. Make sure the vent is closed. If the light still gets through, then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

could you explain thermostat control

I am looking for a window air conditioner that acts like a "Central Air Conditioner".. So when the desired temp is reached, it will not only shut the compressor off, it will shut the blower off as well, and then when the room temp increases, it will automatically turn the airconditioner back on.

Answer:
The standard operation of our air conditioners is that when the unit reaches the desired temperature, the compressor system shuts off, but the fan will continue to run to circulate the air and test the room air temperature. Those units which are designed with the ENERGY SAVER MODE will allow the fan to be shut off, along with the compressor system, when the desired temperature has been achieved.

What is the width of the bottom guide?

Our window configurations have a track that is 3/4" wide. Previous window A/C unit (also made by LG) had a bottom guide that fit into it perfectly.
