Unit returned twice, streaming application problem
Date:January 18, 2012
Best Features: Plays blue ray videos fine
Cons: Streaming application problems, especially NHL Game Center live
"As a blue ray player the model works fine. It plays movies as it should.
However, I have ongoing problems with the streaming video service. First , the NHL application in the premium service doesn't work. There is an ongoing software problem that doesn't allow me to watch any live games. No matter what game I try to watch the application won't play, sighting blackout restrictions. This occurs even though I am not trying to watch a local market team. For instance I am in Southern California and the application wouldn't allow me to watch an Ottawa vs. Philadelphia game. Also, I can watch the game on my PC that is on the same IP address, router and modem as the blue ray player. The customer service at NHL Game Center reports that it is a problem with LGs produced application. I even had LG customer service call NHL game Center service; they were told the same thing. However, LG is stuck on the title "blackout restriction" and just gives me a boiler plate answer about NHL blackout rules. After a month of the NHL failure, the blue ray player lost all connection to the internet. The problem was isolated to the blue ray player. LG said to send the unit for service. Which they paid but it took three weeks. When the blue ray player returned it had a software update allowed all of the applications, including, NHL Game Center, to work for about a month. However, after a subsequent software update the NHL Game Center application again doesn't allow me to watch any live out of market games. LG continued with "blackout rules" excuse. Then, after almost two weeks of it continuing not to work, LG says I need to send it back for service. I have only had the unit since November 2011. I would suggest trying another brand if you are interested in streaming NHL Game Center or want to a reliable streaming option."

Great Features and Picture
Date:January 18, 2012
Best Features: Great Picture Quality and Compatibility with LG TV
Cons: Slow load times
"I recently got a 3D LG TV and this Blu-Ray player mostly for compatibility. I also love the DLNA feature - as we often pull stuff from the computer to entertain the kids.
Remote works well and is completely compatible with the LG TV - so I really don't need 2 remotes.
Load times are slow BUT I think this is the case with ALL Blu-Ray players.
Picture quality is also excellent - with Blu-Rays, it's awesome. 3D with a passive TV set is pretty good and pulling video content from my home computer is also good, though it would depend on how you encode the video.

Do not buy. Unusually bad product from LG
Date:January 17, 2012
Best Features: Plays wide variety of files
Cons: Almost everything else
"50% of time watching a DVD she will start making noise, and shutdown. She will not let you turn her back on for one minute, when you can turn her on, you are back at the start of the movie.
The streaming YouTube interface is horrid. She plays videos while searching for YouTube videos that is at least PG 13.
Streaming from Netflix works well
Plays wide varieties of files.
Would never buy again."
