Best Features: It has more Smart TV wi-fi apps than most other Blu-Ray DVD player brands
Cons: The wi-fi signal connection process can be a little erratic at times
"I actually am not the most high tech A/V person and did not really intend to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player, but I wanted to add internet radio access and Netflix movie downloading capabilities to my new Best Buy Panasonic A/V receiver and when considering the price of buying a Blu-Ray DVD player versus purchasing an internet streaming-only device like Roku or Google TV, I felt that this particular Blu-Ray unit had an incredible number of wi-fi Smart TV apps that most other brand Blu-Ray DVD units do not have and for the price made sense to buy for the relatively small difference in cost. (Samsung is the only other company that currently offers some premium Blu-Ray DVD units with a larger array of wi-fi Smart TV apps, BUT most other online user/reviewers have agreed that LG's wi-fi connecting/downloading time is MUCH FASTER than Samsung's--even though Samsung's unit with a similar high quantity of Smart TV apps costs about $35 less than LG's). When my unit does find my home's wi-fi signal, then I find connecting with these apps usually takes around 20 seconds or less (online reviewers have complained about Samsung's similar units taking 30-40 seconds or more of wi-fi app connecting time).
One of the few annoying glitches is that that the unit constantly asks the user (at least an average of 1 out of 3 times used) if they want to update the units wi-fi programming and if you do, it can mean anywhere from 10-20 minutes delay in accessing your wi-fi channel selection (and once it starts updating that programming you are warned to not interfere with the process or can damage the unit).
Another complaint is that when I turn the unit on with the intention of only accessing its wi-fi (Pandora internet radio, for example), sometimes it does not seem to connect with my home's wi-fi signal and will try to send me through all of the wi-fi connecting steps all over again--which is a nuissance and slightly frustrating. However, I have found if I turn the power off, wait a couple of minutes and turn it on again that it will usually correct the problem then connect properly to the wi-fi.
I have not heavily used the Blu-Ray DVD viewing function of the unit so I cannot address the "grinding" noise some Best Buy customers have mentioned when loading discs, but I am hoping I do not encounter that problem."
"Just over 90 days old and complete catastrophic failure! Very loud grinding noise after loading the movie. Error reading and will not play the disc. Also, trouble with updating. Continued to get "failed" to update message. Very surprised at the poor quality of this LG product. I have the 5700 3D tv and it is absolutely been great! Reason I purchased the Blu-ray DVD player. The salesman warned me and I read the numerous 1 star reviews but thought "no way"! Big mistake! Stay away from this product! LG Customer service as mentioned in serveral reviews is terrible! Suggest Sony or Samsung."
"Bought this specifically for Netflix, but I found HuluPlus also, with a 2 month free trial. It was easy to install, hooked up quickly and was watching movies that night. I think it's a little slow and sometimes takes a while to update, but overall I'm very pleased."
