What People Are Saying

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great little drive, it's been a workhorse I have used this as a workhorse backing up a desktop whose DVD drive died, and the hard drive is dying. I've burned about 150 DVDs already (photos, documents, etc.) and it's been great. No problems installing. Wish the cord was longer and I do wish it was a little easier to open the drawer but there is a button to open it. Just got to get the feel for it. Portability is nice too. Great size for people who travel. September 3, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for price During setup it I had to disconnect several times because it wouldn't keep running the disk. Took about 4 tries but finally got it set up. Works well since then. July 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Drive Excellent little drive. Does everything it was supposed to do. Easy setup, Windows recognized it right away with out the bundled software. Using it on my Toshiba satellite P775. June 11, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Portable, Fast and Reliable I've used it on a Macbook Pro and Windows 7 PCs and it is recognized easily. It records fast and has played everything I've tried so far. It does what it is supposed to do and the small size means I can take it with me all the time. May 29, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Gets the job done Bought to install Microsoft Office onto my Netbook for travel. Worked great, just let Windows 7 recognize and install. May 16, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by It does what it's advertised to do. It is portable. It writes disks quickly. Sometimes difficult to load disks. Very light. May 10, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great drive I use the drive alot cause my laptop DVD drive quit weeks ago, beings it has a Y USB I couldn't spare 2 USB ports so I bought a 7 USB hub I haven't used the burn feature yet, installation was easy plus bonus software/features for my webcam (bought 4/4/12) April 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great little device Works perfectly with the Mac Mini for loading things. I take it on the road if I have stuff to do that needs another drive. Quiet, reliable and affordable. April 11, 2012

Buying an external drive is much cheaper then replacing the internal one. I have read the manual cover to cover and it does not
help.
Problem is, I hook up the LG external drive and my Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, with a 1.67 GHz Power PC G4, and my mac does not recognize it. I look under Finder, System Preference's, even under i-Tunes to turn on the manual drive.
My question is, how do I install this drive sucessfully on my Mac? (just fyi..i do have windows for Mac installed if that has anything to do with it. Please advise.

Try using your Windows for MAC. It must be for XP, Vista or Windows 7. Hopefully, this will get it working.

Answer:
The ability to “rip” the content from these DVDs is dependent upon the software in use on the computer. The drive will be able to perform most any task, as long as compatible software is available.

The superdrive in our 2004 iMac w/ OS 10.4.11 (Power PC G4) will not read DVDs but does read CDs. We have a newer iMac, but keep the older one as an extra when two of us need a computer at the same time. I found an LG external DVD drive model GP10NB20 at Best Buy, but the system requirements on the box state that the Mac must have OS 10.5.4 or higher. Do you make one that will accomodate the older operating system?

Answer:
I have an LG Super Multi-Blue, BP06, for 3D play back as well as regular Blu-Ray & standard DVD & CD play & write/rewrite. The box does not indicate MAC OS, but it may or may not be compatible. Check with LG to see if it will work or if they have a model for MAC OS. It's smaller than the other externals for increased desk space, if needed.

This is not an LG issue. Microsoft has put this website out to assist customers with their disc drive. Please go to support.mircosoft.com/kb/982116. Follow the steps on the screen to update your drivers on your unit. There is a chance that your unit will work after that. If you are in warranty, please call one of our product specialists at 1-800-243-0000.

Is this fast enough to support movies and games?

My internal laptop drive has crashed and I can't locate a replacement in state, technicians have told me conflicted reports of whether data transfer from the drive via USB 2.0 is fast enough to support watching movies and installing/playing DVD-ROM games. Anyone know for sure one way or the other?
