What People Are Saying

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent product but poor life span I have bought 2 Gizmo Gadgets for my son. I love the tracking feature. Everyday when he reached school I would get a message for his phone that he reached. I also love the fact that random people could not call his phone and only authorized people could be added to the list. LG needs to upgrade the product and make it more Kid proof. The device has several poor performing aspects. for example after few months of usage, the display starts having issues, the device falls off of the socket often. There needs to be a better hardware version of this model. All in all its a great product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from BEWARE! ESPECIALLY if buying for an older child! We bought two of these for our sons-age 12 and 13. My older son is a big boy, as in tall and broad like his father, not fat. Before we purchased the watch, I asked if the larger size watchband would be back in stock, as it had been out of stock for a while and I knew we would need it soon. I was assured it would be. Here we are two months later, the watchband has never been restocked, and the wristband that came with the watch has already broken. I see that this is a common complaint about these wristbands, both the fact that they break easily and that you cannot find a larger size ANYWHERE. Not on Verizon, LG, Amazon, or eBay....nowhere. If you have a larger child, the band may not fit and there is no other option for replacement. These are made for middle school children, as it states in the description of the watch, so there should be bands to fit those children available. As for the function of the watch, there is no way for a child to call 911, if needed. A lot of people are using these in place of a cell phone for kids who are home alone. There should be a way of connecting to the police. The notifications go to everyone who is allowed to text the child, which means they get one every time the child adjusts the volume, charges the phone, does something on their To-do list, etc. Grandparents, aunts and uncles don't need constant notifications about these things. They just want to be able to text the kids. These notifications could just go to the primary caretaker phone, but I do not see why they need to be forwarded on to everyone else. Also, if it is being used for GPS, the child is able to turn it off if they don't want you to know where they are, and the parent is unable to turn it back on remotely. They are great if they are turned on to locate your child, an acceptable alternative to being able to call your child vs getting them their own cell phone, and are ok for texts. (You can only send up to 30 characters per text) Also, the notifications for a text from your child sounds the same as notifications for anything else, and is pretty quiet. I find it is better for my kids to just call me if they need me, as I keep missing text notifications. It isn't a horrible product, but there are some changes that need to be made. It is a good alternative for those who are too young for a cell phone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall good but MAJOR changes needed Overall we are happy with this watch so far, but a few MAJOR updates needed 1)Needs to be able to call 911. We got this for my daughter as she is staying home on her own for short periods. We do not have a local 10-digit emergency number, so it is a major oversight that she can't call 911 as one of her 10 contacts. 2) Please separate giving people the ability to text her watch from them being able to track her GPS. Her aunt/uncles/ grandparents want to text her but I don't want them to always know where she is. 3) Please allow ANY sort of customization on notifications. On iPhone notifications are on or off, there are no options for just receiving notifications for just texts/calls but not everything else. Everyone that has the app and wants to text with her gets notifications EVERY single time she changes the volume, turns the gizmo on or off, charges the watch, etc. It got real old really fast. It sucks I can't get notified that she texted me without also getting notifications every few minutes if she changes a setting. 4) Absolutely needs to be able to be turned on remotely. A kid can just turn it off if they don't want their parents to know their location. Kind of defeats the point. 5) This watch is VERY large, it is very large and bulky on an adult, let alone a slender child. With all that being said, it has given me the ability for us to call and text each other and has been working reliably, so it is serving its purpose!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good tech, flawed band We gave this to our 10 year old for her birthday. Works great, tech wise. Just make sure to charge it every night. Within 2 months, the clasp on the band broke right in half. It was a poor design to put a plastic clasp, especially on a kids watch used daily. She is a very responsible kid. As in has had glasses since 3 years old and never lost or broke a pair kind of responsible. This should not have happened. If it weren't for the poor design, I would have given it 5 stars. 4 if they were willing to repair it for free or at least sell replacement bands. Be prepared to buy a metal clasp from Amazon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One major complaint The only complaint I have is the notifications. Battery charged, gadget on, battery dead, gadget off. So on...And there is no way to set what notifications you want to see. I have irritated grandparents and I can see why. The app could use an upgrade to include notification settings. Way to basic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect alternative to not buying a phone My 10-yr old loves it & I love being able to reach her when necessary, esp since we got rid of our landline. Great features & easy to learn to use so I think it's definitely worth it. I do wish programming 911 would make this perfect. I'm not sure why that's not an option since if there is trouble, I'd want my kid to call 911 1st and then call me. They should make a version for elderly and/or disabled adults for piece of mind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features! I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas. We both love it! I love the fact that the GPS is so accurate and tells me exactly where he is. You can program certain numbers into his watch through the app. He cannot do that, only you can. He can then make and receive phone calls only from those numbers through a speaker on the unit. Pre-programmed text responses are awesome as well. No video attachments, no picture attachments. Just brief responses. Yes, no, I'm home, I'm on my way, etc. I have given this 5 stars but for two reasons. First, it only comes in red and blue. Second, I can't get the band clean! When you have a busy boy, it gets dirty in a hurry. Overall, highly, highly recommended as a great alternative to a cell phone.
