LG Electronics Delivers Streamlined Design, Advanced Technology To Hospitality Industry

Sleek New Series of Flat Panels Upgrade Hotel Room Experience

LAS VEGAS, May 15, 2008 - LG Electronics, the leading provider of flat screens to the lodging and hospitality market, is showcasing its broad line of stylish liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma high-definition televisions (HDTVs) at the 2008 Hospitality Design Expo, Booth #2216.

As the lodging industry continues to embrace flat-screen television technologies, hoteliers are looking to integrate HDTV into the guest experience and a new level of creative flexibility offered by today’s thin TVs, according to Ron Snaidauf, vice president, Commercial Products, LG Electronics USA.

LG’s new LCD and plasma HDTVs (LC5 series, PC5 series, 42LB5DC and 60PC1DC) offer versatility for hoteliers looking to streamline room aesthetics and enhance their guests’ experience. Snaidauf explained that sleek flat-screen designs eliminate the need for bulky armoires, and the advanced technologies enable integrated access to premium high-definition (HD) content.

“With the growing demand for HD programming in guest rooms, LG’s HDTV models bring a sophisticated integration of stylish design and smart technology to the lodging industry,” said Snaidauf. “We are continually working to find new ways to offer complementary, high-end design and products for the lodging industry and our latest LCD and plasma models are an exciting step in the right direction with their glossy black exteriors and vivid picture.”

Blending distinctive design and advanced technologies, LG’s LCD and plasma HDTVs allow the hotels to take an artful approach as they look to upgrade their properties. Hotels can easily enhance guestroom style with LG’s new models that include an elegant frame, high-gloss finish, and integrated bottom speakers.

LG’s new “Scarlet” (LG60) LCD HDTV series, introduced last month for the consumer market, will be on display at the HD Expo. Scarlet exemplifies LG’s focus on trend-setting design, featuring a thin frame, unique red-color accents and invisible speaker design. The invisible speakers accentuate the beauty and versatility of the LCD HDTV line by eliminating the speaker grill, providing excellent sound reproduction and a wider sweet spot than conventional speakers.

LG’s 60PC1DC is the first 60-inch class* LG plasma created specifically for the hospitality and lodging market. Whether hoteliers mount this TV on a wall or a table-top, guests will be impressed by this sleek, big screen HDTV.

This model includes features such as “Public Display Settings,” which allow the TV to be easily programmed by the installer to turn on at a specified channel/volume level; set the minimum/maximum volume and much more. By using Power Management this display can be programmed to turn off if there has been no activity for a preset time, thereby saving energy consumption. The unit features side and bottom speakers as well as a 7,000:1 contrast ratio.

The 42LB5DC, LG’s first “Full HD” 1080p model designed with the hospitality industry in mind, delivers exceptional picture clarity and employs MPEG-4 H.264 decoding technology to create a superior entertainment environment. MPEG-4 provides compatibility with more than 150 national HD channels, and 1,500 local broadcast HD and digital channels being launched by DIRECTV.

This technology delivers enormous entertainment quality and flexibility to guests at hotels where HD programming is available. By building the technology into the 42LB5DC, LG has eliminated the need for extra set-top boxes and the associated cable clutter. The model is also equipped with Pro:Idiom Digital Rights Management System, which unlocks access to premium content and provides rapid and broad deployment of HDTV and other high-value digital content. Additional features of the 42LB5DC include:

  • Built-in pay-per-view capabilities
  • In Plane Switching® (IPS), which automatically reduces the distortion and blurring commonly caused by fast motion video, and provides a viewing angle of up to 178 degrees, one of the industry’s widest
  • XD Engine® technology, allowing low-resolution analog signals to be transformed to near high-definition levels

Also demonstrated in the booth are LG’s LC5DC LCD series and PC5DC plasma series as well as the PX8 and LG3 models.
