Count on it

When you buy a dishwasher, you want something reliable that you can count on. Because the Direct Drive Motor uses fewer moving parts and operates more efficiently, LG confidently backs the motor with a 10-year limited warranty.

Whisper-Quiet Operation

Whisper-Quiet Operation

LG's technological advances, like the Inverter DirectDrive motor and a hard food disposer system, were designed with quiet in mind. At 50dB, this dishwasher is among the quietest dishwashers in its class.

Get wise

It's unlikely you'll experience any problems with your LG dishwasher, but if you ever do, this feature helps the service center diagnose problems over the phone, or with a smart phone app, helping you minimize costly, inconvenient service calls.

What People Are Saying

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 166 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Dissapointed in LG Bottom rack derails constantly, can't read options window, dishes not completely dry, odor developed after 3rd use. All in all not up to LG quality July 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product! This was the first dishwasher that we had bought in several years. our old one had been out for about 5 years. When we picked this one out at best buy and we had to wait about 2 weeks before it came on the market. after professional instillation we could not believe how quiet it was and how well it washed and dried the dishes. The soft food disposer is a treat. Hardly any rinsing of dishes before washing. Thank you for such a great well made product at an affordable price....It is good to see a company that will back up their product for 10 years. We were sold. August 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best dishwasher I've ever owned We needed to replace a dishwasher that came with the home we bought last year, which was less than 10 years old. I had to re-wash glasses and dishes frequently! Frustrated, because the last few years with a couple of moves, every dishwasher was garbage. I researched to narrow down my choices in a price range that fit our budget and came to the LG brand. We bought it and had it delivered the next day. Being somewhat handy, my husband and I did our own installation (not a difficult thing to do) and since then I have been thrilled with the results! Clean dishes and glassware, easy loading and flexibility with the fold down tines, and plenty of room on top rack to even put my wine glasses. Since we were made aware by the salesman of the importance of using a rinse-aid for thorough drying, something I used anyway, my dishes and glasses come out dry, something I couldn't say about the top-rated brand dishwasher that we had installed in one home about 10 years ago. The operation is so very quiet and the ease of use is great. Since I usually run my dishwasher during the night, to conserve energy, I haven't worried about the length it runs, but love the timer that tells you how much longer the cycle has to go. Now I am looking forward to the new LG range and microwave to be delivered later this week, to replace the range of another popular brand that, although it functions fine, the flaw in the door handle design has caused the handle to come off in the middle of baking! Not a fun thing to deal with! So, eagerly looking forward to this new, top-rated LG range and the microwave to go with the new dishwasher. Bring on the fall and holiday baking season! July 29, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed The racks seems to be arranged in a strange manner that does not give more room. Additionally, the washer seems to trap food odors from dishes sitting in it that it stinks up the house if we left it even slightly open...not very happy about the smell and the capacity. Rated 4 out of 5 by This dishwasher is really quiet. I'm pleased with the purchase of this dishwasher. It is extremely quiet. I have the top rack lowered, this enables larger items to fit with no problem. The only issue I have is that dinner plates placed in the bottom of the dishwasher will fall forward if the rack isn't pushed in smoothly. I think the tines are a little too short. However, I would definitely recommend this product. It holds a lot of dishes and cleans well. July 24, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by not the quality I expected We purchased this dishwasher thinking that we were buying a good quality appliance. Boy, were we wrong! This dishwasher is difficult to load, doesn't hold as much as the 10-year-old dishwasher that we replaced, and doesn't do a great job of getting the dishes clean. I've already had a glass get broken in the top rack because they tend to fall over if you're not very, very careful in how and where the glasses are placed. The bottom rack comes off the track, making it necessary to take out the dirty dishes, replace the rack on its track, and reload. What a nuisance! It is really quiet, but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. I'm really disappointed in this dishwasher, and wouldn't recommend it to anybody. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love It!! I have the refrigerator, dishwasher and next will be the stove!!! I love LG. July 9, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Probably would not purchase again I'm a little disappointed in this dishwasher. Our tall glasses easily tip over on the top rack and they are not getting as clean as I would like. On the bottom rack, if tall plates are lined up and then touched lightly, they all lean over and you must re-position them. These features are very annoying. July 8, 2014

Answer:
Our old dishwasher had an electric element that heated the dishes after washing to dry them. We never used it. The dishes always dried by themselves. The LG has no element. The dishes dry by themselves without any additional heat. It is an electricity saving step I believe.

Answer:
Instead of a heating coil, the hot air from the water is circulated for drying. It is important not to open the dishwasher during the drying cycle, as some of the built-up heat will escape.

Answer:
HYBRID DRYING SYSTEM
This system effectively dries dishes without the use of a heating element that would increase energy consumption.

FAQ: Is a rinse aid required to be used? (E.g. alcohol or vinegar based)
Rinse aid is recommended to enhance the drying performance of the dishwasher. In order to be more energy efficient, the hybrid drying system does not utilize a heating element in order to assist in drying, so a rinse aid plays an integral role in the dry process. If a rinse aid is not used, water may remain on the dishes and the tub. Rinse aid will help to ensure that the majority of the water has been sheeted off of the dishes at the end of the rinse and that the load is ready for the dry cycle.

I had the same question/issue, contact customer service and they can give you the name of the contractor they use for repairs. The toeplate in white is considered a custom order and they fabricate it for you so no return. It wasnt cost justified to me so I let it go, unfortunately I do not remember the name of the company used nor the price.

air gap

Is the air gap necessary with the LDS5040ww model? Is there a way to either remove the hose altogether or keep it under the sink as I need the hole on my sink.

What does error alert FE stand for?

We get an alert of FE at least 2-3 times per month ever since we got the unit. Once we start the cycle over again, it usually makes it through without another error. Would like to know what this means and how to avoid it in the future.

Answer:
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this dishwasher. The FE Error Code indicates an excessive amount of water has been supplied. In such a situation, the unit will likely require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Plus paying to have the old dishwasher removed? And any "installation kit"? What's the ACTUAL total cost? And from reading the description, I need to get this appliance from my driveway to my kitchen, is that right? I'd like to ferret out ALL of the costs and ALL of the necessary add-ons before spending any money on a new appliance. What is the ACTUAL TOTAL cost of buying a new dishwasher, having it delivered to my kitchen and having it installed?
