Whisper-Quiet Operation

LG's technological advances, like the Inverter DirectDrive motor and a hard food disposer system, were designed with quiet in mind. At 50dB, this dishwasher is among the quietest dishwashers in its class.

Get wise

It's unlikely you'll experience any problems with your LG dishwasher, but if you ever do, this feature helps the service center diagnose problems over the phone, or with a smart phone app, helping you minimize costly, inconvenient service calls.

What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great dishwasher This dishwasher has a sleek, modern design that makes any kitchen look good. I love how quiet it is (you can barely hear it). With it just being me and my husband, having an upper rack only cycle (along with an upper rack that lowers) is perfect. The only thing I would change is the option button. It would be better if the option word would light up instead of a bar below it. Our eyes are not what they used to be and we can't see which option we are pushing. I have it memorized where each option is to make it easier. Also, the lower rack has too many tongs that can be moved. Tall dishes don't always stay up well. All in all, I do like my LG dishwasher and would buy LG again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So quiet and cleans well Replaced our original dishwasher from the house (20+ years old), so this new LG dishwasher is wonderful. It is extremely quiet and cleans the dishes very well. Very happy with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Problems with bottom rack I love everything about this dishwasher except the bottom rack constantly falls off the track when you slide it back in. I have had several dishwashers over the years, and never had a problem like this. I would not recommend this dishwasher because of this problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quiet but doesn't clean or dry dishes After 2 years we are giving up with this dishwasher. Although it is very quiet, the dishwasher doesn't clean dishes. Worse, it doesn't dry the dishes, and we use a rinse aid. Also when the bottom rack is full, it comes off the track when you slide it back to empty the dishes. We wasted a lot of money on this dishwasher; I'm writing this review so you won't make the same mistake.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's not what I expected for an LG I bought back in May, and I've noticed it doesn't dry my plates or cups. Everything comes out wet. I wanted to check if there was a way, but there is not. Another thing I don't like is that the normal cycle is over 2 hours. There is no way to turn off the signal beep, so if you start the dishwasher before you go to bed it will ring 2 hours later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's ok I was really disappointed that there is no indicator light that tells me my dishes have been washed. Also, the bottom rack jumps the tracks almost every time we use it. Last, glass positions are limited due to the crazy angles of the top rack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice dishwasher! Works great - cycles seem a little long. Like that I can lock the panel when little kids are around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME MACHINE! We love the capacity - everything fits! Great looking too and fit in like it belonged there! Also child lock makes it so we can run the washer while the kid is running around!

How can I tell if the wash cycle is complete?  There is nothing to indicate that the dishes have been washed.

Asked by: Caldaley
When the cycle is complete, a chime will sound and the display will show “END”. After a short time, the display and controls will shut off for safety and energy conservation.

I noticed that my under sink cupboard which is just next to the dishwasher is getting extremely hot when I run dishwasher.  This never happened with previous dishwasher. Wondering why. Where does it vent? Old one vented out of the top front. New/no vent.

Asked by: EllieMae
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this dishwasher. This unit is designed to vent near the front door. Whether or not this has been covered by the cabinet will depend upon the manner in which the device was installed.

I'm in the SC Mandatory Boil Water area. It might be weeks before safe water is restored. My water heater is set at 120°F. Will the sanitize setting make my dishes safe to use?

Asked by: Michelle B
Our prayers are with all of you in SC and hope that things can be normalized soon. You really should contact the local Authorities there with regards to what is safe for consumption or use in your home when washing your dishes with the LG Semi-Integrated Dishwasher with Flexible EasyRack™ System, Model # LDS5040ST. According to the sanitization standards for chemical and hot water sanitizing as found in the Rules for Food Establishment Sanitation, the specifications for hot water sanitizing depending on the type of dishwashing machine should have a minimum wash temperature between 150°F (66°C) and 165°F (74°C). The minimum sanitizing rinse temperature should be between 165°F (74°C) and 180°F (82°C) and the maximum sanitizing wash temperature should be between 190°F (90°C) and 195°F (90°C)...^IFV

Why does dishwasher make horrble whisling sound and very loudnoise while running thru cycles?

Asked by: retvet
The whistling sound emanating from within your LG Semi-Integrated Dishwasher with Flexible EasyRack™ System, Model # LDS5040ST is covered in your owner's manual on page 19 under the FAQ's section. "Why is there a whistling sound?" "It is important to determine how long the noise occurs and when it happens (what part of the cycle). When water is drawn into the dishwasher, a whistling noise can be heard. This is normal. If the water pressure is too high, it will be louder so it may be necessary to adjust the water valve to lower the pressure if the noise is too loud." The other sounds you're hearing while it is running through the wash cycles may be the Vario Spray System and the soft food grinder and self-cleaning filter. With the Vario Spray System, the water spray alternates between the upper and lower racks, so all of the power from the motor is directed to one rack at a time. This concentrates all of the cleaning power of the motor on each rack in turn. The self cleaning filter system continuously cleans the wash water as it circulates to separate any residue from the wash water. All dirt and residue easily washes down the drain. The grinder grinds up soft food and residue into small particles that can be caught in the filter and washed down the drain...^IFV
