Answer:
No, it is not ventless. We bought a new vent hose that goes with the dryer and that hugs closer to the wall than our old one.

The last time I had to buy a dryer was 12 years ago, so I need to be updated on the tchnology. Exactly how does a steam dryer work and do you have to hook up a hose to the dryer to provide water for the steam?

Answer:
This LG dryer is different from other brands. Instead of a hose tapping into the water line of the washer, the LG has a water container in a compartment on top of the dryer. The container is removable so that you can fill it at the sink, but it also has a screen on the top, so you can fill it from another container of water. There is a water-low warning light, which I just noticed recently. After 5 loads of steam sanitizing, the feature that uses the most water, the water level dropped about 1 inch from about a 3 inch capcity. I usually wind up overfilling it thinking it should need more water, so I haven't seen the water-low feature in action yet. Speaking of "technology" that you mentioned in your question. I consider this a high tech dryer, love the steam fresh and steam sanitizer features and use them often. However, after 2 months of use, I still have to refer to the manual, especially to set the wrinkle-free feature.

Answer:
TrueSteam™ Technology generates real steam to reduce wrinkles and odors, and practically eliminates the need for ironing.

LG's SteamDryer has certain cycles that you would use the steam technology. There is a dispenser drawer that you would fill with water, so you do not need to hook up to an external water source.

Take a look at the video below to familiarize yourself with LG's TrueSteam technology.

Answer:
No, this dryer does not need a water source for the steam function. There is a door on the top of the dryer that you open and manually fill the water reservoir if you want steam. We were told by the sales rep at Best Buy that this is superior in effectiveness (he called it "true steam") when compared to the steam dryers that are connected to a water source (water supply line at the rear of the dryer). He said that the latter type work kind of the same way the spray feature on a steam iron works -- just spritz water onto the drum while the clothes are drying -- not really true steam. We don't know if he is right about one type of steam being better than the other. We bought ours today and won't be able to have installed for a week.

Energy Star Dryer?

I just bought this dryer and washer this week and love them both. The washer clearly states Energy Star applicance. The dryer is NOT energy star? What does it cost per year to run? And why not Energy Star?

Answer:
Direct from the Energy Star website:

"ENERGY STAR does not label clothes dryers because most dryers use similar amounts of energy, which means there is little difference in the energy use between models."

Your dryer shouldn't just dry clothes. It should save you time by giving you more room to do less loads. It should make your clothes feel fresh in no time and your life feel easier by reducing wrinkles and static cling. There's so much a dryer a should do, and this does so much more.
