What People Are Saying

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 49 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by It's ok, but problems. I like the picture and sound, when it starts. Most of the time after putting a disc in it it locks up and will not play and all functions will not operate. I then have to unplug and reset several times to be able to watch the movie. I have had this problem since I've had it. The remote stopped working 6 months after I bought the unit May 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by great product great value Great product works like it is supposed to never had a problem definitely worth the money March 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Blu-ray I've had this product for a while now and very happy with it. I watch Netflix with it a lot and listen to music from Pandora and my computer January 20, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good blu-ray player This has been a good basic player for us and has lasted us well (still working!) December 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 Great product Have been happy with this product and the features it has. It makes my TV smart. September 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cost effect sound bar! This product has very good quality sound and is simple to install. Even though it is not the smallest unit, it does not need a subwoofer and still puts out a very clear sound. I would recommend it. January 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by All around great product at this price point I am extremely satisfied with yet another awesome LG product. May 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great features and picture quality Easy to operate, could have built in wi-fi? instead of direct connection to compluter for up dates and to down steam netfix. April 7, 2013

Answer:
It is nothing wrong with the Blu-ray player. Blu-ray players and Blu-rays don't do Close Captioning. They both use Subtitles. The only way that the player will show text of the show or movie is if it has Subtitles. AVI input or HDMI. But from what I understand you have to set the resolution lower (to say 480p or I) for the AVI to work if I'm correct. Sorry. :/

Answer:
DVD Discs typically do not have Closed Captions. They are formatted with Subtitles, which is the equivalent feature. This is activated by the SUBTITLE button on the remote control.

Memory Stick Supported Formats?

My memory stick is currently formatted FAT, which my LG can read fine, unfortunately, that format does not accept large video files. I've tried formatting EXFAT, but the LG will not read it. Since there are various options when formatting to EXFAT, is there any EXFAT format that the LG WILL read? Thanks.

Answer:
This player supports USB Flash Drives / external HDD formatted in FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS when accessing files (audio, photo, video). However, for BD-Live and Audio CD recording, only FAT16 and FAT32 formats are supported.

Subtitles not working via DLNA?

I am trying to get 'srt' subtitles working for videos I am playing via DLNA. The subtitles have the same exact name as the video files (with the file extension name being different, of course .srt for sub and .mkv for video) and are in the same folder, yet the subtitles do not display. I have tested 5 different videos (avi, mp4 and mkv formats) all with separate subtitle files and they still do not work. These videos play fine with subtitles on my WD Live TV, Asus O!Play and PC. What do I have to do to make these work on the bp220?

Answer:
Even though page 10 clearly states support for:

"SubRip (.srt / .txt), SAMI (.smi),
SubStation Alpha (.ssa/.txt),
MicroDVD (.sub/.txt), SubViewer
1.0 (.sub), SubViewer 2.0 (.sub/.
txt), TMPlayer (.txt), DVD Subtitle
System (.txt)"

.srt is an industry standard format. It does not matter what program is used to create the .srt file, the format is exactly the same in each case. That is like saying "It can play avi files, but only avi files that were created by Nero encoder". The reason it isn't working is due to lazy programmers. It would be great to support INDUSTRY STANDARD FORMAT srt files.

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this BluRay player. According to the notes on page 11 of the owner’s manual, playing video subtitle files are only available on DLNA media server created by supplied Nero MediaHome 4 Essentials software on this player package.

"Preparation efforts" should take place before the season begins. Season is almost 2 weeks old and its not ready.

Why was the app on my player in June 2012 and yet in April 2013 it still says coming soon??
