will the usb c port power a MacBook when plugged in?

Asked by: Mason84
IGNORE CAUTION: I can't seem to edit or retract my answer for that I apologize, after struggling to make USB-C work I've finally got some more information ... not all cables are created equal! I tried hooking up the monitor with an Apple branded USB-C cable which I thought would / should have no issues working. What I didn't realize is that Apple's USB-C cables are CHARGING cables only.  They do not provide data! Purchasing a 3rd USB-C cable elsewhere worked like a charm! Monitor works well with both the MacBook and MacBook Pro. To more directly answer your question Mason84, it does provide power of sorts it seems, but maybe not quite enough for a MacBook Pro 15" unit which requires more power to run. I have these monitors hooked up 2 15" MacBook Pro's and 1 unit is getting enough juice from the monitor to keep it charged, while the other unit does not get enough juice... So maybe it depends on how much power is being used? I haven't tested this but based on that information, I'd imagine that the monitor would supply more than enough power for either a MacBook or MacBook Pro 13" laptop, but needs more testing. Also, based on that information, I'd still recommend plugging the laptop directly into a charger if possible just to be safe. Sorry it's not a better answer and sorry about my previous post, I didn't know Apple's USB-C cables (at least at this time) are power only.
