SILVER SPRING, Md., April 28, 2009 – LG Electronics, a global leader in energy-efficient appliances, has joined forces with Coinmach, the largest U.S. provider of multi-housing laundry services, to support an in-depth case study to explore the costs and savings associated with using energy-efficient equipment in multifamily laundry rooms.
Conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy ENERGY STAR® Program, the study involves the common area laundry room located in Silver Spring at the Colesville Towers apartments, where Coinmach installed more than a dozen high-efficiency, front-load commercial washers from LG Electronics.
The LG machines utilize the commercial market’s first belt-free, direct-drive motor offering improved dependability and efficiency. The company’s front-load washers boost water savings by up to 65 percent compared with traditional top-load washers used in common-area laundry rooms.
Commercial washers from LG are both ENERGY STAR and CEE Tier 3 qualified. This energy efficiency, combined with large load capacities and cycle times as short as 33 minutes, can substantially increase a property’s overall utility savings. In addition to being better for the environment, compared with conventional top-load models, LG front-loaders are gentler on clothes, use less detergent and clean clothes better.
“We applaud ENERGY STAR and Coinmach on this important study that we hope will help multi-unit properties, from apartments to dorms, realize energy and cost savings,” said Sam Kim, president, OEM digital appliances, LG Electronics USA, Inc. “LG’s commercial laundry business in the United States builds on our success as the U.S. leader in residential front-load laundry products, and Coinmach’s leadership in the multi-housing laundry service industry complements LG’s energy-efficient laundry technologies.”Steve Kerrigan, CEO of Coinmach Service Corp., parent company to Coinmach, said the ENERGY STAR study using the LG commercial clothes washers “will not only help further confirm the importance of being a responsible global citizen but show the financial benefits of being energy efficient as well.”
As official ENERGY STAR Program Partners, LG Electronics and Coinmach offer energy consumption savings to multifamily communities through technologically advanced, industry-leading, energy-efficient laundry equipment.
