Aspect Ratio Diagram

NOTE

You cannot select [4:3 Letter Box] and [4:3 Pan Scan] option when the resolution is set to higher than 720p.

ASPECT RATIO

Aspect ratio is the ratio of the width to the height of a screen image. Older, standard definition televisions use an almost square 4:3 aspect ratio. Newer, HD programming is best enjoyed in a letterbox, 16:9 aspect ratio that's more like what you see in the movies.

In order to get the best picture for your television, determine your television type and select the corresponding aspect ratio below.

4:3 Letter Box
Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. Display theatrical images with masking bars above and below the picture.

4:3 Pan and Scan
Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. Display pictures cropped to fill your TV screen. Both sides of the picture are cut off.

16:9 Original
Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected. The 4:3 picture is displayed with an original 4:3 aspect ratio, with black bars appearing at the left and right sides.

16:9 Full
Select when a 16:9 TV is connected. The 4:3 picture is adjusted horizontally (in a linear proportion) to fill the entire screen.

TIP

The best resolution, and one that your Blu-ray player is capable of, is Full HD 1080p. If you do not currently own an HDTV capable of 1080p, you should consider upgrading to one to get the most from your Blu-ray player.

RESOLUTION

In order to view movies and other entertainment on your LG Blu-ray player, it must be set to the same resolution as your television. If it is not set to the correct resolution, you may not be getting the best picture possible, or you may not be getting any picture at all.

If you know the resolution of your television, simply select that resolution from the menu. If you do not know the resolution, you can select AUTO with an HDMI connection and it will automatically select the ideal resolution. If you have component cables, it will default to 1080i.

ULTRA HD UPSCALING

Did we say "best"? How about "ultra"? If you connect (via an HDMI connection) a display capable of Ultra HD resolution, this AUTO feature upscales the original video resolution automatically. Available with 730 model only.

DRC (DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL)

If you'd like to keep the audio from bothering the neighbors or your own ears, but would still like to hear everything clearly, this function can help.

How do I use DRC?
When content encoded in Dolby® Digital or Dolby® Digital Plus or Dolby® TrueHD is playing back, you can compress the dynamic range of the audio output (the difference between the loudest sounds and the quietest ones). This allows you to listen to a movie at a lower volume without losing clarity of sound. Set [DRC] to [On] for this effect.

With the AUTO setting, the dynamic range of the Dolby® TrueHD audio output is specified by itself. The dynamic range of the Dolby® Digital and Dolby® Digital Plus are operated the same as the ON mode.

DTS Neo:6

You can enjoy multi-channel surround sound from a 2-channel audio source if your player is connected to the multi-channel Audio Receiver by HDMI connection. The MUSIC setting optimizes sounds for listening to music. The CINEMA setting optimizes sounds for watching movies.
