Not Heating - Cooktop and Range

Troubleshooting Cooking Appliances Last Updated 06/08/2016

Select the type of unit from the tabs below for the appropriate troubleshooting steps:


If the cooktop is not heating, is the issue affecting all elements, on element, or part of a dual or triple element?

The electric range requires a DUAL circuit breaker for all functions to work properly. Turn the range's dual circuit breaker OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop:

  1. Press the ON/OFF key to one of the elements.
  2. Press the + or ^ key to set the highest temperature.

    Note: If the unit has turn knobs, simply turn the knob to the highest setting.

  3. If the elements still do not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If at least one of the elements is functioning and the display is responding to selections, reset the unit to clear any miscommunications with the control board. To reset the unit, locate the circuit breaker to the unit and turn it OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop:

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to one of the elements.
  2. Press the + or ^ key to set the highest temperature.

    Note: If the unit has turn knobs, simply turn the knob to the highest setting.

  3. If the elements still do not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If all of the elements are working but part of the dual or triple element will not activate, verify that the correct steps are being performed to activate the element.

  1. To start, locate the ON/OFF key to the element and then look to the left and right to locate the SELECT key.
  2. Press the ON/OFF key to the element.
  3. Press the + or ^ key to set the highest temperature. One red LED should light up at the SELECT key.

    Note: If the unit has turn knobs, simply turn the knob to the highest setting.

  4. Press the SELECT key one time to activate the 2nd ring, two times to activate the 3rd ring (triple element). An LED will light for each active ring on the element.
  5. If the element still will not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If the cooktop is not heating, is the issue affecting all elements, on element, or part of a dual or triple element?

The electric cooktop requires a DUAL circuit breaker for all functions to work properly. Turn the range's dual circuit breaker OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop, repeat the following for each element:

  1. Press the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF key to activate the cooktop.
  2. Press the ON key to one of the cooking zones.
  3. Select 9 on the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF button to set the cooking zone.
  4. If the elements still do not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If at least one of the elements is functioning and the display is responding to selections, reset the unit to clear any miscommunications with the control board. To reset the unit, locate the circuit breaker to the unit and turn it OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop, repeat the following for each element with the issue:

  1. Press the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF key to activate the cooktop.
  2. Press the ON key to one of the cooking zones.
  3. Select 9 on the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF key to set the cooking zone.
  4. If the elements still do not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If all of the elements are working but part of the dual or triple element will not activate, verify that the correct steps are being performed to activate the element.

  1. Press the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF key to activate the cooktop.
  2. Press the ON key for one of the cooking zones. The first time will activate the single zone, the second time will activate the dual zone, and the third time will activate the triple zone, if available.
  3. Select 9 on the ELEMENT POWER ON/OFF key to set the cooking zone.
  4. If the element will still not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If the cooktop is not heating, is the issue affecting all elements, on element, or part of a dual or triple element?

The induction cooktop requires a DUAL circuit breaker for all functions to work properly. Turn the range's dual circuit breaker OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop:

  1. Press the ON/OFF key to one of the elements.
  2. Press the + key to set the highest temperature.
  3. If the element still does not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If at least one of the elements is functioning and the display is responding to selections, reset the unit to clear any miscommunications with the control board. To reset the unit, locate the circuit breaker to the unit and turn it OFF and back ON.

To test the cooktop:

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to one of the elements.
  2. Press the + key to set the highest temperature.
  3. If the element still does not turn on, the unit will require repair service.

If all of the elements are working but the bridge element will not activate, verify that the correct steps are being performed to activate the element.

  1. Press the ON/OFF key to the element.
  2. Press the BRIDGE key. The bridge element indicator will light.

  3. Press the + key to set the highest temperature.
  4. If the element still will not turn on, the unit will require repair service.
