LG Refrigerator - Troubleshooting Water or Ice Continuously Dispensing

At a Glance

If water or ice continuously dispense, the dispenser lever or switch may be stuck in the "pushed in" position. This is generally caused by residue build-up on the dispenser.

Try This

Activate the Control Lock

Press and hold the *Lock button for 3 seconds. This will prevent the dispenser from operating when the lever is pressed.

  • Location of the *Lock button will vary depending on your model
  • You will hear a beep when you press the button. Press & hold it for 3 seconds until a second beep is heard.
  • While the lock is active, all controls on the panel will be unresponsive.

Clean the dispenser area and the dispenser lever

  • Dampen a soft towel with water and a mild detergent and wipe away any buildup and/or residue around the dispenser lever.
  • When done, wipe dry with a clean towel to prevent staining.
Note

DO NOT use water to wipe over the control panel.

Try using the dispenser again

  • Unlock the control panel and place a cup under the dispenser.
  • Press the dispenser lever for 2 seconds to dispenser water into the cup and let it go.
  • If the dispenser continues after the lever is released, open the refrigerator door to force stop the dispenser and reactivate the control lock.
  • Reach out to LG Support to schedule service.
