LG ANDROID LOCK SCREEN BASICS

NOTE: Some Settings, Menus, or Icons may differ from that of your device, this article should only be used as a general reference.

Your phone automatically uses a default Lock Screen to simply prevent unintentional function activation. You can choose to secure your phone so that only you can unlock it, access your data, buy applications, and many more.

None - No Screen Lock

NONE means there will be no screen lock on your phone. This will enable anyone to unlock your phone screen and access your apps and information.

How to setup No Screen Lock

  • When you use none, it will remove every other forms of screen lock on your phone.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose NONE. This will remove other screen lock options you have enabled.

No Security

SWIPE

With swipe, you can unlock your phone by swipping your finger across the screen either to the left, right, top or bottom.

How to setup Swipe Screen Lock

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose SWIPE.

  • You can now unlock your phone by swiping right, left, up or down.

KNOCK KNOCK

Knock Knock is a unique way to unlock your phone by gently tapping a PATTERN with a knock knock. Just like knocking on your house door, your phone is expecting you to knock so that it can open the screen for you to access all your apps and information.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose KNOCK CODE.

  • Pick your choice to require knock code to turn on phone.

  • Tap a Knock code, the code must be AT LEAST 6 TAPS and use at least 3 DIFFERENT QUATERS of the knock area.

  • Confirm the knock code, make sure you remember your knock code.

  • Pick your choice to select what notifications show on your lock screen.

  • NOTE: Follow the on-screen instructions to create a backup PIN number in case you forget your knock code.

Forgot Knock Code?

  1. After five incorrect Knock Code attempts, a notification appears saying “Wrong Knock code entered 5 times in a row...” and a Forgot Knock code? button appears at the bottom right side of the screen. Read the notification, and tap OK.

  2. The next screen shows a 2x2 grid that provides the same environment as a Knock Code setup for a more accurate input.

  3. If you incorrectly enter your Knock code for the 6th time, you cannot enter it anymore. You should unlock your phone by logging into your Google Account (if setup on phone) or by entering the backup PIN you created during setup. Then tap OK to unlock.

PATTERN LOCK

Pattern Lock Unlocks the screen using a pattern you draw with your finger.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose PATTERN LOCK.

  • Pick your choice to require pattern lock to turn on phone.

  • Draw a pattern, select NEXT.

  • Confirm the pattern lock, make sure you remember your pattern.

  • Pick your choice to select what notifications show on your lock screen.

Forgot Pattern?

  1. Tap the Forgot Pattern? button on the bottom right of your screen.

  2. Enter the Google account Username (email) and Password. Tap Sign in OR Enter the backup PIN you created during setup and tap OK.

PIN CODE

Pin code unlocks the screen using a sequence of NUMBERS (at least 4 digits) you prefer.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose PIN CODE.

  • Pick your choice to require pin to turn on phone.

  • Enter a PIN (at least 4 digits), select NEXT.

  • Confirm the PIN code and make sure you always remember your pin.

  • Pick your choice to select what notifications show on your lock screen.

Forgot PIN?

  1. Tap the Forgot PIN? button on the bottom right of your screen.

  2. Enter the Google account Username (email) and Password. Tap Sign in.

PASSWORD LOCK

Password lock unlocks the screen with an ALPHABET OR NUMERIC sequence. Enter a password (at least 4 characters)

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose PASSWORD.

  • Pick your choice to require password to turn on phone.

  • Enter a PASSWORD (at least 4 characters), select NEXT.

  • Confirm the PASSWORD and make sure you always remember it.

  • Pick your choice to select what notifications show on your lock screen.

Forgot Password?

  1. Tap the Forgot Password? button on the bottom right of your screen.

  2. Enter the Google account Username (email) and Password. Tap Sign in.

NOTE:

If you do not select a lock screen, your device will default to the Swipe lock screen.

If you do not have a Google account added to your device or remember the backup PIN you created during setup, you will need to perform a factory reset.

Caution: A factory reset will delete all user applications and user data not backed up.

FINGERPRINT

How to setup fingerprint:

  1. Open SETTINGS > GENERAL TAB > FINGERPRINTS & SECURITY  > FINGERPRINTS.

  2. NOTE: To register fingerprint, you need to first set security lock (knock code, etc.) to be used with fingerprint.

  3. Enter your lock screen protection to begin registering your first fingerprint.

  4. Lightly touch the power button multiple times to register your fingerprint.

  5. When complete, tap OK to exit or tap ADD MORE to register additional fingerprints.

NOTE: Up to 5 fingerprints can be registered.

FACE RECOGNITION

Face Lock unlocks the screen using face recognition artificial intelligence. Keep in mind that Face unlock is less secure than a pattern, PIN or password because it uses generalized shape and dimensions to verify your face.

Before using face recognition, you will need to setup or confirm a second way to unlock your phone such as knock code, pattern, pin or password.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, tap ALLOW FACE RECOGNITION.

  • Pick a second way to unlock your phone e.g. knock code, pattern, pin or password.

  • Add your face by following the steps on your device.

    NOTE: Find a place indoors that is not too bright or dim and ensure to hold your phone at eye level.

  • Show your entire face within the circle, nod your head up and down, turn your head left or right.

  • You can also use the ADVANCED settings to improve the face recognition on your phone.

NOTE

Face recognition is a secondary unlock method that results in your phone being less secure.

A similar face can unlock your phone.

The data used to recognize your face is kept private on your phone.

To save power, the face recognition will not be working below battery level 5%.

VOICE RECOGNITION

Voice recognition unlocks the screen using voice. Before using voice recognition, you will need to setup or confirm a second way to unlock your phone such as knock code, pattern, pin or password.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, tap ALLOW VOICE RECOGNITION.

  • Pick a second way to unlock your phone e.g. knock code, pattern, pin or password.

  • Add your voice by following the steps on your device.

  • NOTE:

    Say a word or phrase 4 times in a loud, clear voice.

    Record in a quiet place.

    Use 2-3 words or phrase e.g., "Hi LG" or "LG Mobile."

  • Tap the mic icon and say a word or phrase.

  • Tap the mic icon and ensure you say the same word or phrase each time.

NOTE:

Voice recognition is a secondary unlock method that results in your phone being less secure.

A similar voice can unlock your phone.

The data used to recognize your voice is kept private on your phone.

Background noise may decrease voice recognition accuracy.

SMART LOCK

Smart Lock automatically unlocks the device when trusted locations (work, home) or other devices (Bluetooth® headset, NFC tag) have been detected.

Smart lock will only be available when a secure lock type e.g pin code, pattern lock is setup. Turning off the secure lock will also turn off smart lock.

NOTE: Smart Lock is a feature provided by Google, please visit this Google Support Page for smart lock for more information.

  • From the HOME SCREEN, select SETTINGS.

  • Select DISPLAY, then choose LOCK SCREEN.

  • From the list of options, choose SMART LOCK.

  • Enter the current unlock method (e.g., PIN, pattern, etc.).

  • Select any of the available options then follow the onscreen instructions to set up a trusted unlock.
