We are pleased to announce that the Android Jelly Bean (software version P87020d) upgrade for the LG Escape is now available. In addition to native Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OS (, we will also include a few LG UX improvements:

  • Task application - Lets you sync your tasks in Outlook so you always have insight into those important to-do items.
  • Enhanced notification
  • Editable Favorites/Groups tab - Enable you to show or hide tabs from Phone/Contact app.
  • Google Now feature is included as part of recently used apps to discover information when you need it without searching.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps  > Settings  > About phone

  2. View the current software under Software version.

  3. If the current software on your device is version P87010c or P87010f, using the LGST update is recommended. If the software on your device is version P87010i, using the FOTA (Over the air) update is recommended.


  1. You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to download the software update.

  2. Fully charge the battery. If your battery is below 50%, you will not be able to proceed with the update.

  3. Save any important data before updating the software on your device. Any data not saved to the microSD or on a PC may be erased; i.e. contacts, images, etc. To backup your data, connect your phone to a PC via the USB cable. After connecting, select Media sync (MTP) mode on your phone. Copy personal folders to your PC, i.e. DCIM (photos, videos), Downloads, Music, etc.

    You may also download a third party backup solution using the Play Store on your device.

Note: Calling and messaging functions are not available during the update process. The entire upgrade process varies depending on software package size and your internet connection speed.

Software Update

  1. When the software update is available, the update icon  will display in the status bar at the top of the screen. Swipe down from the top to view the notification panel as pictured below. Tap the notification to get started.

  2. Tap Install now.

Note: If you choose Later, you will be given the option to postpone the update for 1, 4, or 8 hours.

  1. When the upgrade is complete, your phone will restart and transition through a series of alerts stating Android is upgrading. Once your phone has powered on, you will be notified that the software update was successfully installed. Tap OK to close the notification.

Your phone may take longer to power on the first time after the update.


If you have not been notified of an available software update, you can manually check if on is available.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps  > Settings  > About phone

  2. Tap Software update > Update now to manually check for a new update.

  3. You will be prompted if a new software update is available. Tap Download and go to Step 1 in the Software Update section to continue.

Software Update

  1. Click here to download the LG Mobile Support Tool to your computer, then open.

Note: You will need a PC running:
Windows 2000 (SP4 or later), XP, Vista, 7, or 8
CPU - 1.8 GHz or higher
Memory - 1 GB or higher
Hard Disk Drive - 9 GB or higher available
Administration rights on the PC for software installation
High-speed internet connection

  1. Connect your phone to your PC.

  2. Tap Start Upgrade within the LG Mobile Support Tool to begin.

    1. Device will progress through Analysis, Download, Update and Complete during the update process.
    2. While updating, the device will power off and enter a download mode at 5% completion. This is normal. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE!
    3. At approx 95% of completion, the device will power on. This may take several minutes. This is normal. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE!
    4. If your software update stops before it has completed, please do not close the update tool and try the update again. Additional troubleshooting steps are below.

  3. The tool will notify you when the update is complete. Tap Exit to return to the main screen.

  4. Wait for device to power on. Once powered on, the device will reconnect to the LG Mobile Support Tool. When connected, observe that the version number reflects the latest Software P87020d. It is now OK to DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE.


  1. If the phone software upgrade stopped before completion, please do not close the update tool and try to update again following original instructions.

  2. If you already closed the update tool, and the phone will not turn on normally, please follow the steps below:

    1. Remove back cover and battery.
    2. Record IMEI/ESN/MEID from device label in battery well.
    3. Replace battery and back cover.
    4. Open LG Mobile Support Tool.
    5. Connect the device to PC via USB cable.
    6. From the drop down menu, select Options > Upgrade Recovery.
    7. Enter your phone information and tap OK.
    8. After checking the phone information, it will start to update automatically. If it does not work, the device may require service to attempt recovery.
