Group Play/Surround Mode

Group Play allows you to group speakers together, and have them play the same audio. This can be useful if you have multiple speakers in the same room, or if you want all of the speakers in a certain area of the house to play together (maybe during a party).

Group Play can also be used to set up wireless surround sound, if configured correctly.

Setting Up Group Play

Requirements:

  • Setting up your Music Flow speakers in Group Play mode requires at least two speakers.
  • The LG Music Flow Player (Android/iOS), or Music Flow (PC) must be installed on the respective device.
  • All speakers must be added to the App (part of the Mesh Network).
  • For information about adding speakers to the Music Flow Player App, refer to Music Flow Apps and Software - Installation/Setup/Adding Speakers.

Recommendations:

  • Connect at least one speaker directly to the modem/router via ethernet. The speaker connected via ethernet should be set as the main speaker when setting up the group within the app.
  • It's best to use Wi-Fi only for Group Play. Results may be undesirable if mixing connection types.
  • Keep all speakers within range of the wireless router or bluetooth device.

Setting Up Surround Sound Mode

  • All speakers must be Wi-Fi capable and support Music Flow.
  • The front speaker must be an LG Music Flow Soundbar.
  • The LG Music Flow Player application must be installed on Android, iOS, or PC (to group the speakers).
  • All speakers must be added to the App (part of the Mesh Network).
  • For information about adding speakers to the Music Flow Player App, refer to Music Flow Apps and Software - Installation/Setup/Adding Speakers.

Recommendations:

  • Have at least one speaker connected to your home network via Ethernet.
  • Use the same model for both rear speakers.

For example:

You could have an LAS851M Soundbar in the front.

Streaming Services

Streaming Services are only available with the Music Flow Player App or Music Flow Bluetooth App for Android/iOS.

The Music Flow Player App has four partner services, including Spotify®, iHeartRadio®, Rhapsody®, and TuneIn®.

In addition to the partner services, the Music Flow Player App will also list the apps that are GoogleCast ready and currently installed on your device.

The partner services can be accessed from the home screen of the App.

To access the full Streaming Services list (including partner services and GoogleCast ready apps):

Navigate to Side Menu > Streaming Services.

Alarm/Sleep Timer

The Music Flow Player App offers both an Alarm feature and a Sleep Timer. These can be used for the straight-forward functionality that they are designed for (alarm will wake you in the morning to music from your speaker, sleep timer will shut the speaker off after a certain interval), OR you can get creative.

Since an alarm and a sleep timer can be assigned to each speaker (or speaker group) individually, you could use them to have certain speakers activate on timers, creating an exciting effect during a party with guests in multiple rooms.

To access these features from the Music Flow Player App:

Navigate to Side Menu > Settings > Alarm/Sleep Timer.

To access these features from the PC software:

Navigate to Settings > Alarm or Settings > Sleep Timer.

Mesh Network Wi-Fi Channel

When using the Music Flow Player App or PC/Mac Music Flow software, it is possible to change the wireless channel that the speakers' mesh network operates on.

Note: This will not change the channel that your wireless router operates on.

Changing the mesh network channel has the advantage of reducing potential interference with your home network. Radio frequency (RF) signals interfere with each other, and changing the mesh network channel to one separate from your router channel may increase performance.

For Advanced Users: You'll notice that the available channels in the 2.4GHz bandwidth are 1, 6, and 11. This is by design due to channel overlap. Though there is some debate on the issue of a 3 vs. 4 channel scheme, and even more debate about the relevancy of a 3 channel configuration vs. a spread spectrum setup for consumer environments, most routers are designed to recognize other networks operating on channels 1, 6, or 11, and are designed to share bandwidth more efficiently on them.

Note: Any 5GHz channel can be used since there is no overlap.

Setting the Mesh Network Channel

Requirements:

To change the mesh network channel from the Music Flow Player App:

Navigate to Side Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings > Mesh Network Channel.

To change the mesh network channel from the PC software:

Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Mesh Network Channel.

Note: The Mesh Network channel can be set to a 5GHz band even if the wireless router is not capable.

Sync Music Library

When you first setup your Music Flow Player App or PC software, it will search for nearby DLNA enabled devices (such as a PC/Mac DLNA server, or mobile device with DLNA enabled). After the initial setup, if songs are added to other devices on your network, you may wish to setup an automatic Sync to stay up-to-date with the newly available songs.

Note: You will need to be connected to a Music Flow product to change Sync settings.

To setup Music Library Auto-Sync on your Music Flow Player App:

Navigate to Side Menu > Settings > Music Library.

To setup Music Library Auto-Sync on your PC software:

Navigate to Settings > Sync.
