Connecting a Printer - PC

  • Installation

This article provides information about connecting a Printer to your LG PC.

For basic printing needs, Windows makes connecting a Printer very easy.

Note: For advanced functions, such as Scanning or Copying, you may need additional software provided with the Printer. Contact the Printer's manufacturer for additional assistance with advanced features.

There are two ways to connect a basic printer, USB or over your home network. These are the ways most home users will connect. If connecting to an office printer, you may need to use the method found under the Advanced Setup tab at the top.

  1. USB - This setup happens automatically. Simply connect the printer's USB cable to one of the computer's USB ports and let Windows take care of the rest.
  2. Network - Here, again, there are two options.
    1. New Printer: If this is the first time setting up the printer at your home, you will need to follow the instructions that came with the printer. This usually involves connecting the computer to the printer's own network, then configuring the printer, but each printer is different so follow its directions.
    2. Existing Printer: If the printer has already been setup on the network previously, and you just need to add it to this computer, follow the steps below.

To setup an Existing Network Printer:

To access the new Settings menu:

  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start icon from the Taskbar.
  2. From here, click the Settings icon (bottom-left).

Click Devices from the Settings menu.

Click the Add icon next to the Add a printer or scanner heading.

Windows will search for available printers. If all goes well, your printer will appear in the list.

Add your printer:

  1. Select your printer from the list.
  2. Click the Add device button.

Once the printer is successfully added, it will appear in the Printers section, and will be available as an option when you print a document.

If your printer is hidden, which is the case in many office settings, you may need to use advanced options to manually enter its location.

To access Advanced Printer Setup Options:

To access the new Settings menu:

  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start icon from the Taskbar.
  2. From here, click the Settings icon (bottom-left).

Click Devices from the Settings menu.

Click the Add icon next to the Add a printer or scanner heading.

Windows will search for available printers. In this case, your printer will not appear in the list.

Click the area that says The printer that I want isn't listed under the Add printers & scanners heading.

The Find printer by other options dialog will open.

From here, choose the method that suits your specific configuration, then follow the prompts.

Note: You may need to contact your IT department or network administrator to obtain the location of the printer.
