LED backlighting refers to a method of illuminating an LCD display. LED (Light Emitting Diodes) are utilized as opposed to traditional CCFL backlighting and offer greater dynamic contrast, improved power consumption and often a wider color gamut. LED's can be positioned around the perimeter of the screen or directly behind the screen.

Interested in 19LE5300, was this model discontinued for a reason?`

Some of these TVs are still available for purchase, so please advise. We need a slim LED TV for the kitchen, and the 22 inch that LG makes is too large.

Similar to the automotive industry, the previous year's models are discontinued to make room for the new year's models. Take a look at the 2011 models coming out!
