How do I get the this TV to show in 1080p?

When I click on the info button, it says I'm watching in 720p. It's advertised at a 1080p. I have another TV that is 1080p and it says that I'm watchng in 1080 and my 720p TV says that I'm watching in 720p but since this is advertised as 1080p, I don't seem to be watching in 1080p. Is there anywhere to change this and, if not, why is it not showing in 1080p?

Answer:
The resolution of the TV is 1080p, this means that the TV can reproduce up to 1080p if the source it is 1080p, the source or player is the one that provides the quality of the image, the TV just detects what you give it, and if can be presented.
I have a Sony BluRay, player and I can set it to give 1080 or 1080p and the TV detects both correctly.

Answer:
If you're connected to a cable box such as comcast (I had this very same problem) turn the cable box off, then press the menu button and hold until a screen appears showing you the native resolution of the cable box (mine was showing 720p). Follow the directions and select 1080i then enter. Turn the power on to the cable box, and now you should see 1080i when you press the info button on you LG lcd TV

Answer:
There are different options which can lead to a different resolution that that which is advertised. Yes, this television has a native resolution of 1080p or 1920x1080p. In order to determine the cause of the settings variance, it will be important to know additional information, such as whether or not a cable box or satellite receiver is being used; if so, to what resolution is the box set; and, what connection cables are being used. Each of these can have bearing on changes in the video resolution. For additional troubleshooting, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Answer:
I'm sorry to say I did try to get surround through that optical out for my xbox 360 and it didn't work. I cut the tv out of the middle and ran the optical from the xbox straight to my surround system and it worked fine. I can't believe I forgot that happened.

Answer:
Yes, you should be able to receive surround sound signals when connecting the OPTICAL Digital Audio Output jack of the TV to the OPTICAL input jack of the Home Theater System. Once connected, and the TV SPEAKER option in the AUDIO MENU is deactivated, any audio signal that is received to the television, through HDMI or other connection, will be routed to the external system. A DTS-formatted signal will not be supported.
