Answer:
I am not sure what your question means, but I will tell you this. I download movies. Then I put those movies onto a flash drive. Then I plug the flash drive into the TV. It plays the movies. They are in high quality and there is movie software on the TV that allows you to do everything that a DVD player can do.

HD cable box - coaxial cable vs. HDMI

When I plug the HD receiver into the tv with the coxial cable and scan it finds the channels, but when I do the same thing with the HDMI cable - it says no signal. I can see the picture but no sound and when I scan for channels is says it finds none. Why is this? Cable box issue?

Answer:
Well, If you are using a cable box for this TV, or any TV that has HDMI, you will need to switch the TV's input to that disignated HDMI port. (HDMI is higher quality) Put the HDMI cable into the port labled "1" on the back of the TV, Then turn on the cable box. Wait for the cable box to program itself. Then once it is done (most of them turn off after programing, make sure its on) Hit the "input" button at the top of the TV controller. Then choose the "HDMI 1" option. You can select this by using the arrow keys towards the bottom of the TV controller. REMEMBER: You wont be able to control the channels with the TV remote, you must use the CABLE BOX REMOTE to change channels. The tv remote will control the volume.

Answer:
We appreciate your interest in this television. This is normal operation. When a cable box is in use on the HDMI port, the television should not be able to locate any channels. All the channel information is stored in the Cable Box. There is nothing reaching the television tuner. Again, this is normal. Press the INPUT button on the TV remote control, until you see HDMI in the corner of the screen. Once this is done, activate the cable box and change all channels with the cable box remote control.

Answer:
This tv will support all video formats that you have listed in your question. I use the USB video software on the television all the time. The quality of the picture and the sound is somewhat surprising! I actually have and optical audio cable running from the TV to my surround sound. (The tv has an optical audio output)

What is the ideal picture set up for the LG 42LV3500

I have been looking online and found some ideas but my picture is not as bright as I would like. I went to the expert1 option and adjusted the categories according to someones idea online. I am still not happy with the picture. Any suggestion you can give would be appreciated.

Answer:
The manufacturer’s optimum settings, for the screen, are as the unit was set at the factory. This can be obtained by accessing the PICTURE menu, and selecting the PICTURE RESET when set to Expert1, under the Picture Wizard. To increase the brightness, deactivate the Energy Saving mode, as this feature automatically reduces the brightness of the screen to conserve energy.
